Limon is located on Costa Rica's east coast bordering the Caribbean Sea. The capital of the province is the city Limon. Limon is home to one of Costa Rica's largest shipping ports as well as Tortuguero National Park.

Limon Province is bordered to the north by Nicaragua and by the provinces Heredia, San Jose, Puntarenas and Cartago. The total land area of the Limon Province is 9,189 km². The population is 330,295 (2000). Limon Province is divided into 6 cantons as follows:
