Overview

Located in the affluent Langosta neighborhood of Tamarindo, Cala Luna Hotel and Villas offers tastefully decorated hotel rooms and multi-room villas. The quiet location affords guests the convenience of staying only minutes from downtown Tamarindo, and it's beaches, but far enough to enjoy a relaxing, pura vida stay. Hotel amenities include an adult's and a kid's swimming pool, restaurant and bar, lounge area, concierge service, spa, and WiFi in most public areas.

Tamarindo is a fun place to visit for all. The gorgeous golden sand beaches offer locations that are ideal for swimming and boogie boarding and other spots that are perfect for surfing. The town has plenty to offer including restaurants, shops, and nightlife. Cala Luna is only a few minutes drive or about a 15-minute walk from all that Tamarindo has to offer, and taxis are readily available.

In addition to the beaches and town, many activities are available from Tamarindo. Surfing and surf lessons would have to be at the top of the list, and what better place to learn? Catamaran cruises provide a romantic way to take in the Guanacaste coastline. Anybody interested in seeing wildlife should put a riverboat safari at Palo Verde National Park at the top of their list. Adventurers will be thrilled by the canopy zipline courses in the area. And if you want a unique experience, head up to one of the adventure ranches near Rincon de la Vieja.

Cala Luna provides an easy going, laid-back vibe. You can walk across the street and down a trail to a gorgeous coastal area. We wouldn't recommend swimming there because of the rocks, but the views and sunsets can be spectacular. The swimming pool at the hotel is refreshing, and there's also a kid's pool. The lounge area by the pool offers shaded and unshaded beach chairs and a bar serving refreshing drinks. The grounds are covered with lush tropical gardens, and there are walkways throughout. Howler monkeys often hang out in the tall, shady trees.

The hotels, open-air Cala Moresca Restaurant serves a delightful menu of Costa Rican and International cuisine. The restaurant uses the finest local ingredients to offer healthy, tasty dishes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The restaurant also offers an exclusive and romantic private dinner on the beach as an added service.

Cala Luna's Spa offers a variety of services. Enjoy a relaxing massage, body scrub, manicure or pedicure, or a variety of other treatments. The professional massage technicians will be happy to help you select a service.

All rooms and villas at Cala Luna are tastefully decorated and offer modern amenities. All rooms and villas offer air-conditioning, flat screen television, phone, fully equipped bathroom, and WiFi. Deluxe Rooms are 164 square feet, offering one or two queen size beds and a furnished terrace. One Bedroom Suites are 180 square feet, offer a king size bed and a double walk-in shower. The Luxury Two Bedroom Suites have a private swimming pool, living room, equipped kitchen, dining area, and two fully equipped bathrooms. The spacious Luxury Three Bedroom Suites also have a private pool and similar amenities to the Two Bedroom units including two equipped bathrooms. Check the Amenities Section for details of what is included in each room style.

NOTE: Cala Luna is not a beach front hotel. When looking at a map, it appears to be close to the beach, but this is a rocky section. To access the beach, it is best to go to the main beach area in front of Tamarindo, which is only a few minutes drive or about a 15-minute walk.

Hotel exceeded my expectations! EXCELLENT SERVICE!

07/25/2022

Very nice hotel with our own pool. The food here was excellent with a great breakfast

02/23/2022

We stayed in one of the villas with our own private pool. It was excellent for our group (5 adults). This is a smaller resort so peaceful and quiet. There are 2 beaches nearby, the closest being picturesque but a little rocky and the further (15 minute walk) sandy and busier. The breakfast was good complete with the wonderful fresh fruit.

An absolute slice of luxury. The hotel has a bath to a private beach area, where sunset cocktails are served daily. Free bikes are available from reception if you want to cycle into Tamarindo itself.

We loved this hotel and would stay here again. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was delicious. The only thing is beach was not really safe to swim but we knew that going into the vacation.

What a great place! We really enjoyed staying at Cala Luna, and glad we switched our itinerary to Tamarindo. The resort was about a 15-20 minute walk / 5 minute bike ride (they had free bikes available to use) to the main part of town (cab was $6-$8), which was perfect because it was quiet and felt very private, which is what we were looking for. We were also able to walk to the beach area near the main part of town along the water from the resort with no problems. The beach area by the resort was very rocky, as expected, which was actually a nice alternative to the main beach in Tamarindo that is very wide with very soft white sand. We really enjoyed going to the rocky beach area for an early morning swim and walk, sunset happy hour the resort offered, and also later at night to view the stars in a dark place. The rooms were big, clean, very comfortable, and private. The pool area was great, lots of room and places to sit, food was amazing, and lots of monkeys putting on a show throughout the day. It was nice to see one of the owners (he took a morning fitness class with us and talked with us at breakfast), and their family/friends also enjoying the place with us. Many of the friends had come years ago, loved the place and continued to come back to stay during visits, eventually moving to the area permanently (their initial and subsequent experiences at Cala Luna had a lot to do with this). Speaking of the amazing food, almost everything is from their organic farm just outside the town, and you can tell as everything tasted great and so fresh. Dinner onsite was so good, and we signed up for the La Senda Dinner experience, where we were taken to the farm (La Senda), given a private tour by the Chef, and had an amazing dinner that he created just for our group that night with many of the vegetables and fruits we saw and tasted on the farm tour. It was a truly unique experience. We are looking forward to returning and staying at Cala Luna again in the future.

Happy hour cocktails would be great

11/29/2018

The location was a little off the main part of Tamarindo, but not too far and the hotel itself was so beautiful. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The dinner on the farm is a must! All food and accommodations were excellent. Our only regret is we didn’t spend more time at this location.

Amazing hotel. Staff was awesome, perfect location from town. Amazing!!

03/29/2017

Such an amazing hotel!! Very unique. We enjoyed the tour of the grounds outlining the eco friendly aspects of the grounds. Have also recommended this hotel to several people since coming home.

03/01/2017

Best hotel of the trip

02/23/2017

We made use of the hotel owned tours and were very impressed. Quite an experience to be at the owner's home and have her cook dinner for us!

11/24/2016

Amazing place and we loved our 2 bedroom villa! Also liked that we could walk to Tamarindo and Langosta Beaches!

06/23/2016

Clean rooms and friendly staff.

06/12/2016

Absolutely loved this place!!! The staff was amazing! No complaints

05/27/2016

Exceeded expectations. Staff was very polite and personable, room was very clean and comfortable, wonderful setting with direct access to the beach. We loved it and will return.

02/21/2016

Loved the sunset bar with free run drinks on the beach. The monkeys were fun to watch near the room. Can service to and from town was very prompt.

02/01/2016

This place was amazing could have spent another week here. Quiet and beautiful but close enough to walk into town.

01/27/2016

Beautiful hotel. Close to beach but a bit away from the busy town. Good food

11/16/2015

excellent in every way. The only tiny issue was that we prefer silence to music at the pool (much prefer to hear howlers and crickets than music someone else has chosen for us.

10/06/2015

I think we were expecting to be a little closer to the shops and restaurants. Regardless, the hotel was beautiful and they offered bike service which we took full advantage of. Lots and lots of mosquitos!

08/16/2015

The hotel was beautiful, but the beach was disappointing. The actual beach is very small and slanted and you can not go in the ocean during the day as it is extremely rocky during low tide. We found a nearby beach club that we could use, but it was for an additional cost and was about 5 minutes away. I was really looking forward to being able to step out of our hotel and lay on the beach, but it wasn't possible here.
The pool area was great and we had a lovely time meeting other guests there. The food at the hotel wasn't spectacular and was really expensive and there were a few times our orders came out wrong. Overall the experience was great, but I wish the beach was more conducive for swimming and laying out.

07/25/2015

This was an incredible place and the people who worked there could not have been nicer. I would recommend Cala Luna to anyone and would go back. It was perfect.

07/06/2015

Great hotel. Only complaint is the dirt road to town. If walking, breathing in a lot of dust!
