Albergue Heliconias Lodge is a budget-friendly eco-lodge located in located in Bijagua de Upala between Tenorio Volcano and Miravalles Volcano. This area belongs to the hidden gems that Costa Rica still has to offer, this is a true off the beaten track destination. The eco-lodge offers guests the experience to visit an ambitious project proudly owned and operated by a group of ten determined local families. The grounds were assigned for deforestation. Local families came together and started a community association to protect the grounds. They are successful in preserving and protecting the natural environment in the reserve and engaging in eco tourism for many years. Heliconias Lodge and Rainforest are pioneers in ecotourism in the Northern Region of Costa Rica. Guests of Heliconias Lodge will enjoy amenities such as restaurant, bar, free parking, amazing and unique views, great birding and groomed trails and a conference center.
The Tenorio and Miravalles Volcano area offers plenty of activities such as the Rio Celeste, a visit to the Maleku Indigenous Reserve and the Heliconias Lodge Rainforest Suspension Bridges Tour. A visit to the Rio Celeste (light blue river) Waterfall is an amazing experience. Due to a combination of minerals in the river the color is bright turquoise blue. Nature lovers will enjoy the hike through the Tenorio National Park and the undeniable beauty that the Rio Celeste Waterfall offers.
While there are many options for activities in the Tenorio and Miravalles Volcano area, you may prefer to enjoy the silence and the pristine nature on the grounds of Albergue Heliconias Lodge. The standard room cabin provides private bathroom, bedside table, closet, study desk, furnished balcony where you can enjoy a beautiful view of Lake Nicaragua and the Miravalles Volcano.
The cottage provides private bathroom, build within the rainforest, Jacuzzi, balcony with spectacular views of Volcano Miravalles and Lake Nicaragua.

The place also is a little dated, however everything worked, it was clean, quiet and staff were super nice. Also, we really enjoyed the hanging bridges walk on the property and the proximity to Tenorio NP. Much better value than, say, Selva Verde.
