Rafting on the scenic Pejibaye River is a perfect family whitewater adventure with occasional Class ll and Class lll rapids. You’ll be accompanied by your river guide who will see you safely through the waves as you experience the thrill of river rafting.
The tour will begin when you are picked up from your hotel then driven past agriculture farms and coffee plantations to the edge of Rio Pejibaye in the rainforest. Your guide will plunk the rafts into the water and hand out paddles, lifejackets, and helmets. You’ll receive safety instructions from your guide on how to follow commands that will help you navigate the river together. Even though this river is generally calm, you’ll still have to paddle hard at times and will probably get an occasional adrenaline rush!
Located in the tropical forest just outside of Turrialba, the Pejibaye River flows in the shadow of the breathtaking Turrialba Volcano. Surrounding the river are hanging vines, overhead tree canopies, old growth trees and lush green vegetation.
As you float down the river you may see wildlife hidden within the forest or birds wading in the water. Keep your eyes open for sloths, iguanas, monkeys, toucans are more. Your guide, who doubles as both an expert rafter and nature enthusiast, has a sharp eye for pointing out wildlife and a wealth of knowledge about the plants growing along the banks.
The Pejibaye River features gentle stretches of calm water alternating with faster moving rapids. Rafting enthusiasts who are just starting to get their feet wet, usually love this particular river because it is so easy. Kids ages 7 and up will especially enjoy riding through the rapids, and the parents will appreciate the safer rafting experience. In the rainy season, beginning around the month of October in this area, water levels rise increasing the chances of more Class lll rapids.
Halfway through the tour, your group will pull over on the side of the river to enjoy a delicious picnic lunch prepared by your guide. There will also be bottles of water and other refreshments available in a cooler. Feel free to explore the river shore or go for a swim while lunch is being prepared!
