Wakeboarding in Costa Rica is a popular sport and Lake Arenal is the perfect place to go for wakeboarding lessons. Typically calm and with gorgeous surrounding mountains, Lake Arenal reflects beauty everywhere you look. Being out on the lake is an awesome experience especially trying out a new or favorite sport. The professional instructors at FlyZone know just how to get you up and riding the wake whether you are a beginner or a boarder looking to enhance your technique.
You will be picked up from your hotel as far away as the La Fortuna area then after passing through the town of Nuevo Arenal you will reach the FlyZone dock on the west side of the lake. Your instructor will provide superior quality equipment like Liquid Force and Hyperlite wake boards as well as lifejackets and helmets in a variety of sizes.
You’ll motor out on the lake in a Ski Nautique wakeboarding boat that creates a perfect and predictable wake. Your professional instructor, who has been teaching wakeboarding and waterskiing since 1999, will show you the basics and help you get started.
If you are an experienced wake boarder maybe you would like to learn some more advanced moves. You can request, at the time of booking, to have 1000 lbs of ballast added to the boat creating larger and more challenging wakes.
Whatever your level is you’re likely to find learning various techniques such as Backrolls, Tantrums and Air Raleys an exciting way to spend time out out in the middle of a beautiful lake in Costa Rica! Watching your instructor wakeboard is impressive as he shows you all kinds of tricks according to your ability, effortlessly maneuvering through the water. This is a fun lesson as you practice your new moves behind the boat criss crossing over the wake.
Lake Arenal was once one third the size it is now before it was chosen as the best site to create a dam to provide energy for the country. Its long narrow shape now covers over 30 square miles with Arenal Volcano at one end. You’ll be able to see the volcano from the opposite end of the lake where you will be surrounded by a panorama of stunningly beautiful mountains and windmill farms as you are out wakeboarding. On a clear day you should be able to get some epic photographs wake boarding with the iconic Arenal Volcano behind you in the distance.
If you would like to spend more time on the water and deepen your wakeboarding experience, FlyZone also offers camps, where you can spend several days in this beautiful area of Costa Rica taking your ability to the next level.
Transportation is included from as far away as La Fortuna as well as from the closer town of Nuevo Arenal. One way transport from your hotel to the FlyZone dock can take up to 2 hours depending on the location of your hotel. Total combined time of tour and transportation can be between 4 to 7 hours, again depending on how far away your pick up location is. It is a beautiful lake side drive from La Fortuna to the opposite side of the lake. Please bring a bathing suit, dry clothes, towel, sun screen and bottle of water.
