Day 1 Welcome to Costa Rica! Upon arrival to San Jose International Airport (contact us for details if arriving at other airport), you will receive a VIP Airport Greeting by a Pacific Trade Winds representative. During your visit to , you will stay at Volcan Turrialba Lodge. Volcan Turrialba Lodge is a truly Costa Rican eco-lodge located between Irazu and Turrialba volcanoes. Hotel amenities include swimming pool, restaurant, bar, and wireless internet. While at Volcan Turrialba Lodge you will enjoy a Cabin Room. Cabins feature comfortable basic, yet comfortable accommodations with private bathroom. |
Day 2 Turrialba Volcano hiking adventure. This is a guided hike that will take us from the upper rings of the rain forest to cloud forest over 10,000 feet in elevation. Turrialba is one of 5 active volcanoes in Costa Rica and we will be able to observe the crater at the peak of the hike. This tour is available for people in good physical condition and includes transportation, lunch and tour guide. |
Day 3 CATIE Mountain Bike Tour. This Tropical Biking Tour takes place at the plantations and botanical gardens of CATIE. Any level of rider can adapt to the topography of the trails we use on this tour. Your naturalist guide will explain the diversity of forest and fruit plantations, including coffee, cocoa, sugar cane, citrus, plantain, bananas, macadamia, pineapple, mango, avocado, and many other exotic species from tropical countries all over the world. The variety of flowers and fruits create the ultimate site for observing birds, mammals and some reptiles. Your tour includes a bilingual guide, gear, and round-trip transportation. |
Day 4 Whitewater rafting on the Rio Pacuare. Professional bilingual guides will help navigate you through class III and IV rapids on this thrilling adventure. The Rio Pacuare is a great river for experienced rafters or those in good physical condition. Please inform us if you weigh over 200 pounds as restrictions may apply. No experience necessary on this 6 hour adventure which includes transportation, safety kayaker, guides, lunch and equipment. |
Day 5 Transportation will be provided to San Gerardo de Dota which is a birdwatchers paradise located in the central cloud forests. During your visit to San Gerardo de Dota, you will stay at Trogon Lodge. The Trogon Lodge is an Eco-lodge and bird watchers paradise located in the cloud forest area of San Gerardo de Dota. Hotel amenities include trout pond, restaurant, bar, nature trails, conference room, and internet. While at Trogon Lodge you will enjoy a Standard Room. Standard Rooms feature a heating system and views of the river Savegre or forest. |
Day 6 Waterfall Tour. This is a strenuous hiking tour through the cloud forest and to the waterfalls. This 4 hour tour includes guide. No transportation is needed from Trogon Lodge. Transportation is not included from other area hotels. |
Day 7 Early Morning Birdwatching tour. This tour is great for any birdwatcher and particulary those seeking Resplendent Quetzals as this is one of the few areas in the world that has the right features to harbor Quetzals year round. With a little luck and cooperation from Mother Nature, we should be able to spot many species of birds. The tour lasts 2 hours and includes guide. No transportation is needed from Trogon Lodge. Transportation is not included from other area hotels. |
Day 8 Transportation will be provided to Dominical which is home to some of the most beautiful palm studded surf beaches in Costa Rica and an abundance of wildlife in the surrounding mountains. During your visit to Dominical, you will stay at Hacienda Baru. Hacienda Baru is an eco-lodge and wildlife refuge located just north of Dominical. This unique property is a bird watcher's and adventurer's paradise with miles of trails, secluded beaches, and adventure activities galore. Hotel amenities include swimming pool, restaurant, bar, and internet. While at Hacienda Baru you will enjoy a Superior Room. Superior Rooms feature naturally-ventilation, a bathroom with hot water shower, in-room safe, and a front porch with a view of the rainforest. |
Day 9 Cano Island Tour and Snorkeling. Cano Island is located 15 kilometers off the south Pacific coast. It was utilized by Pre-Columbian indigenous people as a sacred burial area and many artifacts remain. The day starts off with a drive down the coast and boat ride through the Sierpe Mangroves out to the Pacific Ocean and out to Cano Island. Upon arrival we will snorkel for an hour and then you will eat lunch. After eating, you have your choice of exploring the island or beach time on the white sands. This 11.5 hour tour includes transportation, guide, park entrance, and lunch. |
Day 10 Crocodile Night Safari. This is an evening tour on the Rio Terraba and mangroves. Your bilingual naturalist guide will point out and teach you about the crocodiles and other nocturnal creatures that inhabit this natural wonder. This 4.5 hour tour includes transportation, guide, sandwiches, and drinks. |
Day 11 Rappelling down rainforest waterfalls. This is the ultimate jungle experience. The tour starts off with a walk across a suspension bridge and then a short hike to the waterfalls. After a brief safety course you will rappel down two waterfalls of 45 and 55 meters in height. Please inform us if you weigh over 200 pounds as restrictions may apply. No experience necessary for this 5 hour tour which includes transportation, guide, meal, and snack. |
Day 11 Transportation will be provided to the Central Pacific which is home to some of the most beautiful palm studded beaches in Costa Rica and an abundance of wildlife. During your visit to the Central Pacific, you will stay at Hotel Punta Leona Beach and Nature Resort. Hotel Punta Leona Beach and Nature Resort is located on one of Costa Ricas most beautiful white sand, palm studded beaches and surrounded by the Punta Leona Wildlife Reserve. The resort is conveniently located on the Central Pacific coast approximately 12 kms north of Jaco. Hotel amenities include swimming pool, restaurant, bar, spa, nature trails, mini golf, volleyball, and internet. While at Hotel Punta Leona Beach and Nature Resort you will enjoy a Selvamar Standard Room. Day 12 Beach day at Central Pacific. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the tropical sun on the palm studded beaches of the Pacific coast. |
Day 13 Final Day — All good things must come to an end, though memories last a lifetime. Transportation will be provided back to San Jose International Airport scheduled to arrive three hours prior to your departure flight. ¡Pura Vida! |
