Day 1 Welcome to Costa Rica! Upon arrival to San Jose International Airport (contact us for details if arriving at other airport), you will receive a VIP Airport Greeting by a Pacific Trade Winds representative. Transportation will be provided to the Turrialba Volcano area which is one of Costa Rica?s active volcanoes and an adventure capital. During your visit to Turrialba, you will stay at Hotel Villa Florencia. Hotel Villa Florencia is a comfortable boutique style hotel located near Turrialba Volcano. Hotel amenities include swimming pool, jacuzzi, restaurant, conference room, and internet. While at Hotel Villa Florencia you will enjoy a Standard Room. Standard Rooms feature hair dryer, iron and ironing board, TV, and either a view of the gardens or access to them. |
Day 2 Turrialba Volcano hiking adventure. This is a guided hike that will take us from the upper rings of the rain forest to cloud forest over 10,000 feet in elevation. Turrialba is one of 5 active volcanoes in Costa Rica and we will be able to observe the crater at the peak of the hike. This tour is available for people in good physical condition and includes transportation, lunch and tour guide. |
Day 3 Archaeological Hike at the Guayabo National Monument. Ancient stone carvings, skillfully engineered Pre-Columbian aqueducts with flowing water, and roads going into the rainforest hints to Costa Rica s mysterious past civilizations. Guayabo National Monument is the most important archaeological site in the country. Shadowed by Turrialba Volcano, this mysterious ancient city of over 10,000 people disappeared prior to the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century. A guide will explain the history of the early inhabitants and these ancient excavations that hold a world of mysteries and unanswered questions. This tour includes a bilingual guide, gear, and round-trip transportation. |
Day 4 Transportation will be provided to San Gerardo de Dota which is a birdwatchers paradise located in the central cloud forests. During your visit to San Gerardo de Dota, you will stay at Trogon Lodge. The Trogon Lodge is an Eco-lodge and bird watchers paradise located in the cloud forest area of San Gerardo de Dota. Hotel amenities include trout pond, restaurant, bar, nature trails, conference room, and internet. While at Trogon Lodge you will enjoy a Standard Room. Standard Rooms feature a heating system and views of the river Savegre or forest. |
Day 5 Early Morning Birdwatching tour. This tour is great for any birdwatcher and particulary those seeking Resplendent Quetzals as this is one of the few areas in the world that has the right features to harbor Quetzals year round. With a little luck and cooperation from Mother Nature, we should be able to spot many species of birds. The tour lasts 2 hours and includes guide. No transportation is needed from Trogon Lodge. Transportation is not included from other area hotels. |
Day 6 Transportation will be provided to Drake Bay which is home to some of the most beautiful palm studded beaches in Costa Rica and an abundance of wildlife in the national park. During your visit to Drake Bay, you will stay at Pirate Cove Hotel. Pirate Cove Hotel is a comfortable eco-lodge located at Drake Bay. Hotel amenities include restaurant and bar. There is a 25 pound per person baggage-luggage weight restriction for flight or boat to hotel. While at Pirate Cove Hotel you will enjoy a Bungalow Room. Bungalows feature screened windows, orthopedic mattresses, polished wooden floors, private bathroom, ceiling fan, and a small terrace with a hammock and chairs. |
Day 7 The Cano Island and Snorkeling adventure is a wonderful way to observe and enjoy a tropical island, marine life and artifacts in one amazing day! Cano Island is located 15 kilometers off the south Pacific coast and was utilized by Pre-Columbian indigenous people as a sacred burial area so many artifacts remain. The day starts off with a boat ride out to Cano Island. Upon arrival we will snorkel for an hour and then enjoy a pack lunch. After eating, you have your choice of exploring the island or beach time on the white sands. This full day tour includes transportation, guide, park entrance, and lunch. |
Day 8 Corcovado National Park Tour via the San Pedrillo Station. The day starts off with a boat ride down the coast to the San Pedrillo Station. Then a bilingual naturalist guide will lead you on a voyage to Corcovado National Park. This park is home to about 6,000 species of insects, 500 tree species, 367 bird species, 140 mammal species, 117 amphibian and reptile species, 40 fresh water fish species and abundant flora and fauna. Your guide will point out and describe the various species. In the afternoon with a little luck you will have the opportunity to see dolphins, sea turtles and whales upon you return by boat. This 6 hour tour includes transportation, guide, park entrance, and lunch. |
Day 9 Transportation will be provided to Dominical which is home to some of the most beautiful palm studded surf beaches in Costa Rica and an abundance of wildlife in the surrounding mountains. During your visit to Dominical, you will stay at Hacienda Baru. Hacienda Baru is an amazing eco-lodge and wildlife refuge located just north of Dominical. This unique property is a birdwatcher and adventurers paradise with miles of trails, secluded beaches, and adventure activities galore. Hotel amenities include swimming pool, restaurant, bar, and internet. While at Hacienda Baru you will enjoy a Superior Room. Superior Rooms feature naturally-ventilation, a bathroom with hot water shower, in-room safe, and a front porch with a view of the rainforest. |
Day 10 The Pre-Columbian Rainforest Experience Hike is an intriguing way to learn about the indigenous people of Costa Rica. The hike is led by a naturalist guide who will teach you about the rainforest ecology and Pre Columbian history, visiting an ancient cemetery and petroglyphs. This fun filled half day tour includes guide. |
Day 11 Beach day at Playa Dominical. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the tropical sun on the palm studded beaches of the Pacific coast. |
Day 12 Another Playa Dominical beach day. You can sit back, relax, and perfect that tropical tan, or contact us for choices of an added activity. |
Day 13 Transportation will be provided to San Jose which is the capital city. During your visit to San Jose, you will stay at Hotel Ramada Plaza Herradura. Hotel Ramada Herradura is a comfortable, newly remodeled airport hotel and resort. The hotel is well known for great customer service and tropical setting. Hotel amenities include large free form swimming pools with islands, jacuzzis, theme restaurants, spa, beauty center, bar, casino, and tropical gardens. While at Hotel Ramada Plaza Herradura you will enjoy a Superior Room. Superior Rooms feature air conditioning, satellite TV, direct-dial telephone, internet access. |
Day 14 Final Day — All good things must come to an end, though memories last a lifetime. Transportation will be provided back to San Jose International Airport scheduled to arrive three hours prior to your departure flight. ¡Pura Vida! |
