Punta Leona Wildlife Refuge

Punta Leona Wildlife Refuge occupies 84 acres and was established in 1994 to protect rainforest and beaches along the Central Pacific coast. Biologically the refuge is of great importance as it is located within a transition zone between the tropical rainforest and the dry tropical forest.

Willdife

Punta Leona Wildlife Refuge has well marked trails and is home to over 300 bird species. Common wildlife sightings include monkeys, raccoons, anteaters and iguanas.

Weather and Packing List

Central Pacific temperatures remain the same nearly year round with average day time highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and night time lows in the upper 70s. Precipitation varies by month with the months of December through April being the driest.

Visitors should pack a bathing suit, towel, shorts, tee shirts, appropriate shoes, rain gear, sun block, and insect repellent.
