Rio Pacuare Forest Reserve
Established in 1985, the Rio Pacuare Forest Reserve is located in the Cartago Province. This reserve encompasses 32,550 acres and protects the forested areas as well as the rivers that reside at the base of Talamanca Mountain Range.
Whitewater Rafting and Kayaking
Kayakers and rafters come from all over the world to navigate the Rio Pacuare. The river is famous for an awesome 20 mile stretch near Turrialba with Class III, IV and V rapids, where sections can drop at a rate of 100 feet per mile!
The Pacuare River has several densely vegetated gorges that are loaded with wildlife. The river is consistently rated as the best whitewater river in Central America and top 10 in the world! The scenery here is simply breath taking with lush jungles, canyons and giant waterfalls!
Weather and Packing List
Many consider the Central Valley to be the most comfortable climate in the world with temperatures usually hovering in the upper 70s during the day and lower 60s at night. The rain season here runs from May through November, though the heavy rains are generally during September and October.
Visitors should pack shorts, tee shirts, appropriate shoes, rain gear, sun block. It is also advised to bring at least one pair of pants and a long sleeve shirt.
