Costa Rica August

Costa Rica August Weather:

The beginning of August could have a drier start even though the whole country is still in the “wet season” (or green season). Usually near the end of July or beginning of August there is what the Ticos call a “mini-summer”. This is a period where the rainfall significantly decreases for a couple weeks and the sun comes out and shines on all the beautiful flowers and lush greens the rains have produced.

All of Costa Rica is still in the wet season for the month of August , but no regions are in the “very wet” category. Again on the northern Pacific coast the rains are usually in the late afternoon or early evening with high temperatures in the mid 80’s to low 90’s. San Jose and central valley have much the same with temperatures averaging about 10 degrees cooler. Mountains and higher elevations will be about 20 degrees cooler than the lowlands.

Although the rain will mean some flexibility is needed in your activities schedule, it can also be a welcome “cool down” and prices are generally lower in this period!

8/15 - Dia de la Madre, Feast of the Assumption – Mother’s Day.

8/19- Fiesta Pattronale Aserri- street festival with music, dancing, food and bull fighting (no bloodshed).

8/29- National Parks Day with events at National Parks around the country.
