Flamingo Beach

Flamingo Beach is considered by many to be one of the most sophisticated and beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. It is a favorite to the local ex-patriot community who come here to escape the crowds of other beach areas such as Tamarindo. The white sand beach area remains fairly undeveloped with the Flamingo Beach Resort being the only hotel located on it. Most of the town area is located up on the hillside of the point, which overlooks Playa Flamingo to the south and Playa Potrero to the north.
In recent years there has been a lot of development to the point and town area of Flamingo. There are modern shops, boutiques and several restaurants and bars to choose from. Fortunately the local codes have been enforced and the result is one of the cleanest and most sophisticated beach areas in the country.
Activities
There are plenty of Playa Flamingo tours available with everything from adventures to wildlife observation. The sport fishing is phenomenal here and charters are readily available. Species you will be fishing for include Swordfish, Marlin, Roosterfish, Yellow Fin Tuna, Snapper and more.
Playa Grande is located a short drive away and provides some of the best surfing in Costa Rica. The entrance to Las Baulas National Park is located at Playa Grande and is one of the most important Leatherback Turtle nesting sites in the world. Turtles nest here from mid-October through mid-February. There is a small museum on site and guided tours are available during the nesting season.
Weather and Packing List
The Northwest Pacific is one of the driest climates in Costa Rica. The beach areas have a fairly steady year round temperature with daytime highs averaging in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Night time lows are usually in the upper 70s. Precipitation varies through the year with the nicest weather between November and August.
Visitors should pack a bathing suit, towel, shorts, tee shirts, appropriate shoes, rain gear, sun block, and insect repellent.
Fun Fact: The Catalina Islands are located just off the Playa Flamingo coast and are great for White Tipped Shark observation while scuba diving.
