Samara

Playa Samara is a small pueblo located on the Pacific side of Costa Rica. The town revolves around the gorgeous beach that brings tourist in from all around the world. Playa Samara contains one of the most enchanting beaches in Costa Rica; imagine white sand going in either direction, vibrant blue waters, and lush palm trees as the back drop. This is the scene that Playa Samara locals and tourists wake up to every morning.

What To Expect

Playa Samara is a perfect destination for couples or families to enjoy time with one another while relaxing in paradise.  Once in town, one feels welcomed right away and will notice that there are a variety of restaurants and shops. There are several grocery stores available if you prefer to make your own cuisine. As far as night life goes, there are a handful of traditional bars in town and on the beach.

There are plenty of Samara tours and activities available.  Water adventures consist of snorkeling, diving, kayaking, fishing, boat tours, and surfing. The waves are more suitable for beginners, which allows for a great afternoon of lessons taught by one of the locals. There is also a tour that takes you a mile off the coast to an island called Isla Chora, you can either kayak there or take a boat. Kayaking is the more rigorous out of the two, but allows you to see more of the sea life. To add to your experience, you will find out that there is a remarkable coral reef that lays right off the shore.

Weather and Packing List

The Northwest Pacific is one of the driest climates in Costa Rica. The beach areas have a fairly steady year round temperature with daytime highs averaging in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Night time lows are usually in the upper 70s. Precipitation varies through the year with the nicest weather between November and August.

Visitors should pack a bathing suit, towel, shorts, tee shirts, appropriate shoes, rain gear, sun block, and insect repellent.

Fun Fact: The reef that protects Playa Samara is an excellent place to snorkel on the inside or surf big waves on the outside.
