Overview

Experience the unparalleled allure of The Lost Iguana Resort and Spa, an enchanting retreat that offers a truly unique jungle and rainforest encounter in the heart of the Arenal Volcano region. Nestled on 120 acres of preserved rainforest near the picturesque Lake Arenal, this eco-friendly resort and boutique hotel create an enchanting setting that will captivate your senses. The jungle is at your doorstep, and every room unveils magnificent volcano views. The resort boasts a full-service restaurant and bar, lush tropical gardens, a spa, hiking trails, natural frog and bird sanctuaries, a freshwater swimming pool, and a heated swimming pool. You'll also find WiFi available in some public areas and most rooms, with golf carts provided for convenience, especially for rooms situated on steep hills.

The outdoor adventure at this family-friendly eco-resort is nothing short of extraordinary. A gentle river meanders through the private reserve, with two scenic hiking trails running alongside it. The reserve seamlessly connects with the Rio Arenal biological corridor, creating ample opportunities for wildlife sightings. Howler monkeys are a common sight, and capuchin and spider monkeys make occasional appearances. Lazy sloths are often spotted dozing in the trees, and several large cat species, including mountain lions and ocelots, are known to pass through, although spotting them is rare. The birdwatching is exceptional, with vibrant toucans, aracari, motmots, hummingbirds, and numerous other species adorning the landscape.

Visitors to Arenal are drawn to the region for its hot springs, adventure activities, and immersion in the rainforest, making it a destination ripe for exploration. Several hot springs and hot spring resorts are within easy reach for visitors. We recommend either Tabacon, a larger resort with multiple streams, pools, and visitors, or Ecotermales, a charming family-run hot springs that restricts the number of guests for a more intimate experience. A hike at the base of the volcano is both educational and enjoyable and pairs perfectly with a visit to the hot springs. Adventurers will relish options like whitewater rafting on the Rio Sarapiqui or Rio Balsa, while a variety of canopy zipline courses allow you to glide through the rainforest canopy. The Arenal Hanging Bridges, located nearby, offer terrestrial trails interrupted by suspension bridges, providing a unique opportunity to walk through the jungle canopy. For wildlife enthusiasts, a safari float on the Rio Penas Blancas or a riverboat safari through the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge promises exceptional wildlife encounters.

For a truly immersive experience, indulge in the resort's Golden Gecko Spa, nestled in the jungle beside the river. Picture yourself surrounded by the soothing sounds of the rainforest and the gentle flow of water as you receive a massage by the fireplace. This tranquil oasis is just steps away from your accommodations at The Lost Iguana.

The Blue Hibiscus Restaurant is a delightful indoor and outdoor dining venue, enveloped by nature and framed by mesmerizing volcano views. The restaurant presents a diverse array of international and Costa Rican dishes, ensuring a culinary journey that complements your surroundings. The Palapa Bar is a double pool swim-up bar with a relaxed ambiance and an extensive selection of tropical cocktails to savor.

Each of the four room categories at The Lost Iguana Resort boasts Tempurpedic beds, air-conditioning, cable TV, ceiling fans, a mini-bar, coffee maker, phone, and WiFi access. The Villas Junior Suites, Villas Superior Suites, and Las Casitas offer the added luxury of a private Jacuzzi with breathtaking views. The Villas Junior Suite features two bedrooms and an eating area complete with a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. The Villas Superior Suite offers two bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchenette. Las Casitas also features two bedrooms and a kitchenette.

Quite a climb up to room. I had mobility issues but staff delivered me to the room every time I asked. Great bartender and breakfast service for coffee was often slow but otherwise all great

The bed's are very hard and we had a few items turn up missing from the room. Other then that the hotel and staff were awesome.

Was not aware of how far from town it was. That was the only downfall.

A friendly oasis. Lovely staff. Rooms clean and view as promised. Restaurant was first class for breakfast, lunch a couple of days and dinner each night.
