Playa Potrero is an off-the-beaten-path beach town in Guanacaste. It is only an hour from Liberia Airport and about 25 minutes from the conveniences of Tamarindo. There are a couple of small shops and restaurants, but the main attraction is the quiet beach.
Many tours and activities are available from Potrero. A catamaran cruise and snorkeling tour is a relaxing way to take in the beauty of the Guanacaste coastline. The nearby Catalina Islands are among the best places in Costa Rica for scuba diving. Nature lovers can go on a day trip to Palo Verde National Park for a riverboat safari in search of macaws, monkeys, and giant crocs! Adventurers can go to Tamarindo for surf lessons or go on a high-flying canopy zipline adventure.
Days and evenings at Hotel Bahia del Sol are quiet and easy. Beach chairs and tables with sun umbrellas line the pool area and green zone in front of the beach. The freeform pool has a swim up bar, and of course, the Jacuzzi will allow you to relax and unwind after a fun-filled day of activities.
The hotel's Nau Spa is in a comfortable thatch-roofed hut surrounded by tropical gardens. Professional therapists offer massage, body, and beauty treatments. The hotel also offers yoga classes by certified instructors several times per week.
The Nasu Restaurant offers a fusion of international and Costa Rican cuisine as well as seafood. The open-air restaurant provides a delightful seaside dining experience with delicious offerings. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner from 6:30 am to 10 pm and Happy Hour is from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Hours are subject to change, so please check with the hotel when you arrive.
The 28 rooms at Bahia del Sol Hotel are tastefully and thoughtfully decorated. All rooms offer air-conditioning, cable television, mini-fridge, phone, safe-deposit box, and a coffee maker. The King Sun and Honeymoon Suites have a private terrace with garden views and a Jacuzzi. These rooms also have a living room area, large bathroom, and an outdoor shower. Deluxe Superior Rooms are the newest room style, offering a romantic setting, and an oversized bathroom with bathtub. The comfortably equipped Suites are perfect for couples. These rooms offer a fully equipped kitchen, living-dining area, breakfast bar, and a large bathroom. The spacious Family Suite offers two separate bedrooms (Master has a queen size bed and private bathroom. The additional room has two twin beds and a private bathroom), fully equipped kitchen, breakfast bar, living-dining room, and a balcony overlooking the gardens. Deluxe Rooms have a private Jacuzzi tub and garden as well as hammocks in the corridor. Standard Rooms are the most affordable but of course, are clean and comfortable. There were lots of raccoons and one even tried to come in through a light fixture in our room.

The beach is superb. The bathrooms are spotty and with no water pressure.

We enjoyed staying here and being able to get out and walk on the beach. The front desk staff was engaging and friendly.

This was our second stay here and we loved it both times. The beachfront king suite is amazing. We enjoyed the pool with the swim up bar and the food was very good. Every staff member there is so nice. We made friends on our first trip last May with Ernesto. He works the front desk. It was great to see he was still there. Also Victor, the bartender. He made the best drinks. We would not hesitate to stay here again. Only complaint is the beds. They are not very comfortable.
