This hotel is very nice BUT no help with bags. I don't usually need help but our room was a long steep uphill climb and no matter ne offered to assist us. Luckily we are in shape! This hotel is not for people who can't make the climb. They really should have a golf cart or something to transport luggage at least. We tried to limit how many times we went up and down the hill to our room because it was so tiring and I'm someone who runs a couple mikes everyday!

When we went for birdwatching tour in the morning, the hotel couldn’t provide breakfast boxes to go. Beautiful place. We loved it.

I loved Hotel Ficus! Our rooms were so big with high ceilings and a wrap around terrace the entire size of the room. Loved it!

Hotel Ficus was beautiful. We saw a rainbow outside the restaurant window almost every day. You also had a great view of the sunset. The staff in the hotel restaurant were fabulous. They were so attentive and took time to explain dishes that were being served and shared the story of how they started in the restaurant business. We loved them and enjoyed visiting with them. Loved this hotel and town.

Excellent location, friendly staff. The restaurant in the hotel was atrocious...breakfast was included and very good but the dinner was horrific from a culinary standpoint. They should just serve breakfast and close for the rest....please tell people not to dine here!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again their terrain was very steep for walking up and down for older people. We did get some baggage help when we checked in, but not when we left. The hotel staff never had change unless we bought something, but that may have just been their policy. They did help us book another horseback riding event.

This was a nice place but we had ants on the bathroom and we did not like not having access to ice. they should have offered us some from the restaurant instead of telling us they did not have any. We asked the hotel staff for restaurant recommendations and they told they could not give us any because they offered a restaurant. I've worked in the hotel industry, and that is very rude hostage type policy. We also asked if there was anywhere in town with night life/music/ dancing etc. We were told no. we found 3!! Other than that, they were very friendly. We felt very safe in this area walking around at night. the tree house restaurant in town was very cool and should have been recommended as well as the Green something restaurant across the street. The food was fabulous, cheap and service was great.

Nice hotel, but rooms are poorly constructed. No amenities. No drying hooks for wet items which seemed strange for a cloud forest hotel. Was charged $5 for a dirty hand towel that they said they couldn't clean. Staff was not just going through the motions.

Not a great hotel at all. Very bare bones. Just a box with a couple of beds in it. Not a hotel to stay in with kids. No pool, no restaurant aside from breakfast, nothing to do. We didn't have a view of anything but the room in from of us and a cement wall, although the clerk did try to convince us we had a beautiful garden view. And it looked empty (we were the only people at breakfast) and we only saw one other family the entire time we were there. We had two rooms booked and apparently they delivered beverages at bedtime, but only to one of our rooms. Not sure why the other room was excluded. And I know this is a rustic hotel, but there were far too many bugs in our room. To the point that my daughters slept with the lights on, or at least tried to sleep. The main road through town is so close and the hotel is located on a steep slope so the extremely loud revving of engines of the motorbikes all night long seriously made me believe there was a racetrack located directly next door. Not sure if there are better alternatives in the area, but definitely look around before booking. Not good.

Beautiful hotel within walking distance to a lot of great restaurants and shopping. Would have likes an air conditioner in the room but it was tolerable. Breakfast was good at the hotel too.

We thought the location of this hotel would be a big bonus, but it was its biggest drawback. The proximity to town made it VERY noisy with the motorcycles buzzing through town and up and down the hills at all hours of the day/night. Add in the noise of the live music and bar goers until 4am and it was not peaceful - despite the gorgeous view. We did have to request a room higher up, as the staff was going to put us in the lowest room right off of the parking lot. This hotel seems to be lacking amenities and service that it once had given the older TripAdvisor reviews. Simple things like a luggage rack or some hooks in the bathroom are small details that would make a big difference. If it weren't for requesting a higher room to at least enjoy the view, I'd rate it even lower.

I assumed a hotel in Monteverde would have some forest area in which to go on even a short bird walk, but this really had none. The rooms were comfortable, location good for town access (not for nature) and breakfast good. Staff was very helpful

Biggest challenge was the weather was warmer than usual, which made the rooms very warm as well. There was no a/c and no fans. We knew there was no a/c and was fine with that; it would have been nice to have at least a ceiling fan (or standing fan) to keep the air circulating in the room. Every time we returned to the room, the air was hot and stagnant. We enjoyed the breakfast and how close the town was to the hotel. When we visited, there were no clouds, so although the view was nice, it wasn't what we anticipated in a cloud forest. Clearly this isn't anything the travel agency has any control over and did not change our ratings above.

We enjoyed our stay here in a very spacious clean room with an amazing view of the ocean. The staff members that we encountered were friendly and helpful. We did plan our time in town around the hike up to the hotel and then another hike up to our room--didn't want to do that too many times!

Great location, but we found all the uphill walks a bit straining at time. Surprised the hotel did not have a shuttle or help other than desk staff to get us to the room. They gave us the room with the best view, but also the highest point. Breakfast was a little confusing, buffet two days and the order from a set menu the other two. Restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful.

Considering the area I am sure this was a very nice hotel. The view was incredible. Breakfast was great. I am spoiled. It needs a pool or a hot tub.

The hotel is up a steep hill and there are steep hills from the lobby to the rooms. Not a place to put senior citizens. Find a place down near the town.

Really nice and modern hotel with a beautiful view. We did discover a cockroach under our pillow, it freaked out my wife...stuff like that just happens though. Early in morning the birds love tap dancing across the metal roof. So If one is inclined to sleep in, it's not happening. Aside from that, rooms are very stylish, wonderful view, excellent breakfast!

Excellent service! The hotel is on a nice spot to get a great view of the city and the surrounding area. The hotel design and furnishings are pretty, comfortable and modern, but still in a style that matches the culture. The breakfast and service were excellent! This is a place we would come back to.

A large impersonal hotel, but very adequate. The only place where the restaurant staff did not speak any English, but we managed fine.

I would have given it all 10's but the room we had was ground level and the insects were overwhelming. Spiders, Mosquitos and even a Scorpion was found in our room. It was a little nerve wrecking going to sleep each night in fear that we were going to be bit or attacked by some insect.

The hotel seemed to be short staffed. We needed ice for an injury, but there wasn't any. Since there were no screens on the windows, or air conditioning, there were bugs in the room, but we dealt with that. They could at least, put a fan in the room.

Santa Helena is a very cute small village and the view and proximity of the village was great. It was very convenient to be just a few minutes away from the restaurants in town. I would go back to Ficus if I go back to the Monteverde area.
