Overview

Set on a hillside overlooking gorgeous Tamarindo Bay and the Pacific Ocean, the Wyndham Tamarindo Hotel offers guests a stylish and modern boutique hotel. The views from the hotel are spectacular, especially as the sun sets over the Pacific. The Wyndham Tamarindo is also one of the newest hotels in town so guests can expect more modern amenities and a fresh approach. The Hotel provides sweeping ocean views, access to Langosta Beach Club, free scheduled shuttles to town, a breakfast buffet, restaurant, bar, swimming pool with pool bar, WiFi, fitness room, solarium, spa, and wellness center.

Tamarindo is a fun little seaside village with a gorgeous beach area. Boutique shops and an excellent assortment of restaurants line the streets along the beach. You'll likely find live music and plenty of nightlife. The beach has several distinct areas, some are perfect for boogie boarding and swimming, while other locations are better for surfing. The atmosphere is free-spirited and fun!

Getting to town or the beach is made easier by the hotel's shuttle service. It departs and returns on a set schedule. Guests of the Wyndham Tamarindo also enjoy complimentary access to the Langosta Beach Club and its amenities, including round-trip shuttle transfers. A scheduled shuttle is also available to the Langosta Beach Club for $1 per person, each way. You can walk to town in under 20 minutes depending on where you are going, but remember this requires a hike back up the hill to the hotel. Alternatively, taxis are very affordable, available, and easy to coordinate with the staff's help.

Many tours and activities are available from Tamarindo. Surf lessons are taught daily on the main beach, and of course, bigger waves can be found in Langosta and nearby Playa Grande. The Tamarindo Estuary provides a beautiful place to go kayaking to see crocodiles, monkeys, and plenty of wildlife. Scuba diving can be fantastic off the Catalinas Islands, or you can learn to scuba in one of the dive shop classes. A catamaran cruise will set the tone for a romantic vacation or just allow you to relax and enjoy the scenic Guanacaste coastline. If you are seeking more invigorating activities, check out a canopy zipline adventure or go for a full day of adventure near Rincon de la Vieja Volcano at one of the adventure ranches.

You don't have to leave the hotel to have a good time, in fact, spending all day at the Wyndham Tamarindo can be quite enjoyable. The large infinity swimming pool has a swim-up bar and offers incredible views of the Pacific Ocean. An outdoor relaxation area backs the pool with lounge chairs and sun umbrellas. A spacious indoor lounge area is also available with comfy couches and fantastic views. The fitness room is open daily, allowing you to keep up with your personal routine.

The hotel's spa features a full array of services. Professional technicians offer a variety of revitalizing treatments and massages to allow your mind and body to embrace the Pura Vida state of being.

The onsite Pura Vista Restaurant presents both International and Costa Rican cuisine. Specialties include steak and fresh seafood. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating with ocean views. Room service is available. We would also encourage you to explore some of the many dining options found in town.

The only difference between rooms at the Wyndham Tamarindo is the number of beds and which floor they are located on. All rooms have a small private balcony and ocean views. The rooms offer air-conditioning, cable TV, telephone, electronic safe, mini-refrigerator, bathroom with bathtub and hair dryer, plus WiFi.

Beautiful view. Nice pool. Resturaunt wasn't great. The room was poorly organized. My bathroom door swung into my shower. Everything else was nice.

08/14/2023

The shuttle and collaboration with the beach club were extremely convenient.

11/11/2021

The views are amazing, the pool is awesome, the shuttle to town is reasonable. Food was not as great as Arenal Paraiso.

10/16/2019

Great service! So helpful! Lovely hotel. Great breakfast! Awesome drinks! Thank goodness for the shuttle into town.

08/25/2019

The views from this hotel are wonderful. The service, food, and rooms were good, but not amazing. In the future we would likely pick a hotel closer to the beach. You can walk or take a shuttle down to town, but we felt that the being closer would likely be better next time around. The shuttle also does not run very late, so if you want dinner at around 7 you have to walk or take a taxi back.

Breakfast was really the only slightly disappointing part...lack of variety and nothing much for vegetarians. Location was superb as was the pool.

07/16/2019

The hotel had very few amenities. The breakfast was well below what was expected. One had to pay extra for bacon, sausage, eggs other than scrambled. There was very, and I mean very little variety from which to choose to eat for breakfast. The cost for a small bottle of water was crazy ($5.00). Of all of the resorts we have visited and stayed over the years, this was undoubtedly the one that I would not ever return.

This hotel is actually older and needed some updating but the views are unbeatable. Every room in the hotel has a view of the ocean. The room was clean but just older. Our mattress needed to be changed because it sank in different spots from extensive use. Our door handle broke during the stay and they had it repaired immediately.

03/09/2019

The hotel was beautiful and well appointed with gorgeous view of the ocean. The staff was helpful but not overly friendly and the floors were dirty in the room so we kept our shoes on.

01/12/2019

The hotel was away from the central area. Although a shuttle was available. The restaurant staff were not friendly or happy to all appearances. Also, the restaurant food was VERY expensive and not that good. Breakfast was not as good as others breakfasts. Would not recommend this hotel due to location and price and staff. Very hard and uncomfortable pillows. Bathroom was extremely tiny.

The views were incredible and the pool was amazing. Great place for a quiet break. Walking up and dow the hill to go into town and to the beach was not easy without proper footwear and the shuttle didnt run early or late enough for us so a lot of money was spent on taxis. When the hotel arranged a taxi for us we were told 5 minutes but it took 30 minutes and we missed our ride surfing. So just something to know I guess. The gym was not well equipped at all.

12/25/2018

It was a bit further from the beach than we would have liked. The staff was not that friendly.

12/22/2018

Staff was kind and friendly; everything was cleaned very thoroughly in the rooms. Beautiful hotel!

11/20/2018

Beautiful. Great views of the ocean. Tamarindo was a wonderful place to be to play on the beach.

09/16/2018

Rooms were sparcely furnished ie: no comfy chairs or patio table

07/05/2017

A little mishap with leaking AC right on the first day bUT fixed quickly. The views were amazing and the room extremely comfortable. We did not get the double beds as we thought, but the bed was spacious and comfortable so we left it as is. The breakfast selections were minimal and no matter how early we went down they always seemed to be halfway done with selections left. Wish the shuttle would run a little later as well but it was convenient to get to and from town througout the day.

07/04/2017

The only negative was the food and the cost. It was expensive for the quality.

03/29/2017

Changed rooms after checkin due to sliding door lock, or hard to figure out & staff didn't explain well. Went to preferred lower floor anyway & figured out glass door system-trial & error since no written instructions. same w/ hot/cold in shower. Staff very accommodating, esp. when had security safe problem...& restaurant staff terrific!...pool bar too.

02/16/2017

Beautiful! Restaurant staff went above and beyond.

12/27/2016

Beautiful! Love the town, love the view, love the weather, love the place!

11/16/2016

I was so disappointed! The hotel is not near the beach or the town. The shuttle times start late and end early. The road was long, steep, muddy and unlit, making walking hazardous. But worst of all the hotel shuttle was unreliable--twice he left BEFORE the scheduled time. The second time he did that he stranded us at the beach club at night, and we had been careful to arrive at the shuttle stop early. We asked the beach club to call the hotel and they said he had driven by and kept going because no one was there. Well, that was because it was before the scheduled time! We asked them to send him back and they refused. We had to pay $6 for a taxi!

08/02/2016

Fantastic. Can't wait to go back.

06/27/2016

Upon our arrival they gave us a King bed which was in our reservation so we should have caught that but they quickly gave us a new room with two beds instead. They were very accommodating for that change. The View was amazing and the shuttle to the beach club was great!

06/15/2016

driver to take you into town and beach was not the best example of the pura vida lifestyle, even though not being busy he was not flexible at all.....

06/08/2016

not my kind of hotel but my other family members loved it. I wanted to be in a bungalow on the beach.

03/30/2016

Another beautiful hotel. Food was very limited, but they have free shuttle to town. So you have alot of chocies in town. Lunch menu could have more to choose from because if you want to stay at the pool there is not much.. They could also use more pool chairs. plenty of room. Also every room should have a note stating what a lack of water this area has!!! To make people more conscience of showering and wasting water. Also a note that they are turning off the water in the middle of the day! ! Kind of important.

03/23/2016

Wonderful accommodations, beautiful pool, and accommodating pool bar.

02/26/2016

Many of the other guests were very loud and rude, and the staff at the hotel did nothing to stop it, despite numerous complaints from many guests. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived and they did not secure our luggage (just put it in a corner of the lobby). On the day we arrived, the restaurant was closed for a private event so we were unable to eat lunch. Once the room was ready and we were able to put our luggage away, the shuttle to town stopped running for the afternoon so we were stuck without lunch until the shuttle started running again around 4. The staff was very poor at communicating about all of this to us.

02/22/2016

This is a beautiful hotel with amazing views and sitting by the pool or on the room balcony you can take in these amazing view. The one issue we had is that the hotel had planned a wedding party for one of the nights we were there and they music was extremely loud late into the night and could be heard throughout the hotel including inside our room and late into the night. I suppose that wouldn't have been so bad but in addition to that the staff also cancelled room service and closed the restaurant to the rest of the guests. So on the night we had decided that resting in out room and having dinner at the hotel restaurant would be nice, we could not do that because the restaurant was closed and room service was cancelled. The staff did eventually bring us 2 glasses of wine...which was not done as a courtesy for our inconvenience as they charged us and asked for a tip. While I would stay there again, I would first make sure that they do not have any plans to close down hotel services during my next stay.

02/18/2016

The Esplendor has the best views in Tamarindo. The shuttle bus into town was a van for kids (it said so on the side) and had kid sized seats. Very uncomfortable. There was a wedding reception blasting music on 2/20 until nearly midnight. Couldn't sleep because of it.

02/09/2016

The best part of this hotel is the pool area (when you can get a seat) for the view and relaxation. However it is a very hilly walk to get to the beach.

01/13/2016

This place has a very nice view but that is about it. The restaurant is overpriced and not very good. To get into Tamarindo, they have a shuttle but we were missed by it twice and had to take a taxi. The staff kept blaming us for missing the shuttle even though we were in the place they told us to be. The pool was uncomfortably cold. I wouldn't stay here again but it wasn't bad enough to leave either.

01/01/2016

The front desk seemed short staff as those who were working always seemed to be there. The breakfast was ok, but the pool was fantastic and the rooms were clean, large and beautiful. We really enjoyed the views and the pool and drinks in the pool. A guide to getting a taxi in town up to the hotel would be nice as its not possible to walk at night (very steep and dark roads) or a better shuttle system (just back and forth between the bottom of the hill and the top would have worked.

12/29/2015

The shuttle was not always dependable. The hours were also short and not consistent. I truly enjoyed the staff that worked there.

12/24/2015

I would have appreciated information regarding its distance from the beach. It was a long walk! But it is a beautiful hotel and we had a great time.

12/18/2015

The hotel is new and still working out some problems. There were several times when there was no water in the rooms. The front desk staff need some training on customer service. Getting to town was difficult.
