Guanacaste is located in the northwest corner of Costa Rica. This province is not only home to Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, but also some of Costa Rica's best beaches. Liberia is the capital city of Guanacaste. This city is also home to Daniel Oduber International Airport, which is one of two International airports in Costa Rica.
Guanacaste Province is bordered to the north by Nicaragua and by the provinces of Alajuela to the east and Puntarenas to the south. The total land area of the Guanacaste Province is 10,141 km². The population is 264,238 (2000). Guanacaste Province is divided into 11 cantons as follows:
