Gandoca - Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge is located on the southern Caribbean coast, close to the Panama border. The park protects numerous endangered species and is one of the least visited parks in Costa Rica. Gandoca - Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge encompasses some 9,449 hectares (23,339 acres) with nearly half of that area being marine.
Visitors to Gandoca - Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge have their choice of exploring by land or by sea. The park does have semi - groomed trails which can be accessed from Punta Mona.
Visitors to Gandoca - Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge visitors can also explore by water. The park is home to, and protects a magnificent coral reef. This reef is home to some 500 species of tropical fish. The park also protects a stand of red mangroves which are a vital spawning area for Atlantic Tarpon.
Gandoca - Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge does not have an official park entrance fee. A local donation is however recommended. It is highly recommended to go with a professional guide, as the animals that inhabit the Costa Rica rainforests camoflauge very well to their surroundings. |
