The province of Heredia is located in the
eastern side of Costa Rica's Northern Plains.
The capital of this province is the city Heredia. This is one of Costa Rica's least explored
provinces. Much of the Heredia is considered the Sarapiqui region. Sarapiqui is known for it's wild raging rivers and primary rainforests, which are home to numerous endangered species and wildlife.
Heredia Province is bordered by the provinces Limon, San Jose and Alajuela. The total land area of the Heredia Province is 2,657 km². The population is 378,681 (May 2003). Heredia Province is divided into 10 cantons as follows:
