Land Boat Horseback Ride to Monteverde

Looking for a really fun and unique way to go from Arenal to Monteverde? If so, look no further. The Land Boat Horseback Ride to Monteverde is as unique as it gets!

The day starts off when you are picked up from your Arenal Volcano area hotel. You will be brought to the dam at Lake Arenal and then will board the boat to cross the lake. Lake Arenal is now three times its original size after being dammed in the 1970s to produce hydroelectric power for the country. The scenery on the lake is simply breathtaking. The lake is surrounded by jungle and mountains and of course, the magnificent Arenal Volcano can be seen on clear days to the east. The boat ride lasts about 20 minutes, so take it all in while you can!

After crossing the lake you will be brought to a local ranch. Your guide will provide you with a helmet and brief safety and instruction course. Then you will be on your way horseback riding through the backcountry. The ride will take you through farm land, unpaved roads and trails. You will see rainforest and views few see to the lake. On clear days you may see the volcano as well. The ride lasts around three hours, so this is not for everybody!

After horseback riding, you will be transported by tour bus for the remaining hour or so to your Monteverde area hotel. In total the tour and transfer lasts about 5 – 6 hours, but we must emphasize that this can vary for a variety of reasons. In addition to transportation this tour and transfer includes guides, boat across the lake, horseback riding and safety equipment and fresh fruit.

IMPORTANT: Please note that you must carry on your own luggage from the vehicle to the boat and then again from the boat to the vehicle at the other side of the lake. There is an incline and decline on the ramp and trail. Also keep in mind that we have no control over the weather and that at times, it can be rainy, windy, and the trail may be muddy.
