Mal Pais, Costa Rica is a surfer paradise wedged between the Pacific Ocean and lush hillsides. The town is considered an adults playground and not particularly family friendly. There is one main road in Mal Pais that runs parallel with the ocean. The road continues on to Playa Santa Teresa.

Mal Pais is located on the southern Nicoya Peninsula in the Province of Puntarenas. The climate in this region is among the dryest in the country. The weather in Mal Pais is fairly predictable. Weather is best from December through April, during the dry season months. The months of May through November generally experience higher rainfall totals, with the highest amounts received between August through September.
