The Monteverde area of Costa Rica is comprised of the towns of Santa Elena and Monteverde. The area is famous for the cloud forests that surround including Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve and Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve. This region was settled by Quakers that left the United States in search of a peaceful existance during the Korea War.
Monteverde, Costa Rica is located high up in the Talamanca Mountains approximately 155 kilometers northwest of San Jose in the northern most part of the Province of Puntarenas. The weather in Monteverde is fairly predictable. Weather is best from December through April, during the dry season months (keep in mind this is the cloud forest and can rain at anytime). The months of May through November generally experience higher rainfall totals, with the highest amounts received between August through September.

Most visitors come to Monteverde to visit the cloud forests. There is however, other activities available including canopy zipline adventures and the beautiful San Luis Waterfalls. Monteverde is also a bird watchers paradise. Species such as the Resplendent Quetzal and Keel Bill Toucan are often observed here.
