Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica is known as a rootin' tootin' wild west type of town. The town is considered to be an adults playground an not particularly family friendly. The wild feel to the town can be attributed to the areas colorful history which includes a gold rush in the 1970's and 80's. The rush actually resulted in a lot of destruction to the environment of the Osa Peninsula. This later led to the creation of Corcovado National Park, which was established to protect this fragile region along with the wildlife that inhabits it. Puerto Jimenez is a gateway to the wilds of Corcovado.
