Tortuguero, Costa Rica is located within the parameters of Tortuguero National Park. This national park was established in 1975 to protect 4 species of sea turtles. These species are Green, Leatherback, Loggerhead, and Hawkbill turtles. The people of Tortuguero watch over the nesting areas of these endangered species, protecting form both human and natural predatation.
Tortuguero, Costa Rica is located on the northeast shores of Costa Rica on the Caribbean Sea in the Limon Province. The weather on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica can be fairly unpredictable. Unlike the rest of the country, this area does not experience the normal rain and dry seasons. The best weather on the Caribbean area can be experienced during the months of February through April, then again in September and October.

Tortuguero and Tortuguero National Park can only be accessed by boat through the canals or by plane. The park and canals are home to numerous species of wildlife, including many endangered species. Turtle nesting season is from July through October, with the peak season stretching from August through September.
