Adventure Connection Rafting Rio Pacuare

One of the most enjoyable whitewater rivers in Costa Rica, Rio Pacuare offers continual rapids while rafting through breathtaking scenery. Even physically fit beginners can navigate these waters with the expertise of professional safety kayaker guides. This 3.5 to 4 hour rafting trip covers 18 miles over approximately 50 rapids!
You’ll be picked up and taken to meet the staff who will greet you and go over the safety training. You’ll suit up in a life jacket and helmet plus receive your paddle before hopping into a large multi-person inflatable raft with a guide as your leader.
The first 45 minute descent will be filled with continuous Class ll and Class lll rapids giving you plenty of time to familiarize yourself with white water paddling. You’ll be passing through gorgeous rainforest before you reach an amazing gorge with steep canyon walls covered in verdant green. It is here that with the help of your skillful guide, you will navigate deep drops plus twists and turns with such names as “Terciopelo Snake”. You’ll also witness a beautiful 150 foot waterfall cascading into the river. Here, the river will be mostly Class lll and Class lV rapids.
Beyond the gorge, the river becomes wide and passes through the Pacuare Valley giving you a chance to catch your breath and look for wildlife. Some of the jungle residents include toucans, sloths, and iguanas plus plenty of waterfowl. You may even see some indigenous people along the river’s edge. At some point, you’ll be stopping on the banks for a delicious picnic lunch before continuing down the rapids through pristine primary forest.
Once you reach the end at the Exploration Center, you will have the opportunity to take a shower and change into dry clothes. Be sure to bring your own towel. If you want, you can buy the $25 photo CD taken by the tour company. There’s also a souvenir store.
Transportation will be provided from La Fortuna, San Jose, Escazu, Alajuela, and Puerto Viejo. Depending on your pick up location, transport can take up to 2 hours each way. Or you can choose to take this tour as a means to continue your Costa Rican journey without a return trip. There is a weight restriction of 200 pounds and children must be age 12 or older. NOTE: Changes or cancellations may occur in the event river conditions become unfavorable for safe rafting.
