Montezuma

Montezuma is one of the best kept secrets in Costa Rica. This small, laid back, sea side village is located near the southern most point of the Nicoya Peninsula. The palm studded coastline here is stunning with white sand beaches picture framed with volcanic rock outcroppings. There are tide pools in the rocks which are great for snorkeling. The village is just as welcoming as the rest.
What To Expect
The town center is comprised of a few streets and a small common area in the center. The streets are lined with little shops, restaurants and a couple of bars. The general feel of the area is one of peace and love as many of the inhabitants are left over hippies from the days when it took more than a shuttle bus and ferry ride to get there.
Activities
There are plenty of Montezuma tours and activities available. The Montezuma Waterfalls are one of the area's most popular attractions. The falls are located at a short walk south of town and are a great retreat from the daytime heat. Visitors can swim beneath the falls and some daredevils even jump from the cliffs. Snorkeling is pretty good in the tide pools along the beach and Isla Tortuga is a favorite place for diving and day tours. Of course, the usual canopy zipline, horseback riding, and ATVing are all available as well.
Weather and Packing List
The Northwest Pacific is one of the driest climates in Costa Rica. The beach areas have a fairly steady year round temperature with daytime highs averaging in the upper 80s to lower 90s. Night time lows are usually in the upper 70s. Precipitation varies through the year with the nicest weather between November and August.
Visitors should pack a bathing suit, towel, shorts, tee shirts, appropriate shoes, rain gear, sun block, and insect repellent.
Fun Fact: Montezuma is home to an International Film Festival every year during the month of November.
