The five-star Hotel Punta Islita, perched on a hillside within easy reach of the beach, is located 30 minutes south of Samara on the Nicoya Peninsula. A great choice for those seeking a luxury experience at a secluded beach with many on site activities. The uniquely tiered landscape ensures privacy for a variety of rooms, suites, and villas, many featuring an individual pool or Jacuzzi. Amenities of Punta Islita Hotel include an executive golf course, two swimming pools, tennis, yoga, restaurant, bar, tropical gardens, spa, conference room, and WiFi. On site laundry service is available but expensive. Perfect accommodations for honeymoons, families or groups.
Surrounded by shade trees, the secluded quiet cove appears primitive and wild with a brown sand beach. A small swimming area can be found at one end away from the rocks. Despite being a public beach (all Costa Rican beaches are public) it’s typically all but deserted, the town of Punta Islita being more inland. The hotel provides transportation from the hillside accommodations for those who prefer not to walk, and some of the hotel’s common areas are found down by the ocean. Definitely excellent views from above.
Playa Camaronal, located a few minutes from Punta Islita, is a primary nesting site for several species of sea turtles. Night tours are available from May through November to observe this incredible experience. Visitors also come to the area for activities like swimming, scuba, surfing, biking, marine wildlife observation, boating, fishing tours, hiking trails, and other leisure activities.
Guests at the hotel can play a round of golf, go ziplining, horseback riding, take guided hikes, visit the spa, and participate in a variety of hotel activities such as a barbecue on the beach. One event not to miss, called the Turno Dinner, presents an evening of traditional dishes plus Costa Rican entertainment featuring music, giant puppets, and a children’s dance troupe. The hotel’s included breakfast is highly rated although lunch and dinner have not achieved the same status. Despite its rustic appearance, a good restaurant in town to try is Don Ramiro’s.
The hotel partners with the local Islita Art Museum, where you can drop in for a fun lesson in candle, paper, or jewelry making. The hotel also sponsors The Ara Project, a rescue and reintegration center for the beautiful Red Macaws you will easily see flying around the hotel grounds. Other activities include participating in local soccer games for both adults and kids at the local soccer field. Free cooking classes, plus Pilates Yoga and Morning Stretching sessions are available daily.
A variety of rooms choices, from Standard Deluxe to a four bedroom Villa, are available, several offering a private pool or Jacuzzi on the terrace. (The Room Types are listed below). Often architecturally different, each is well designed with tasteful art reflecting the natural elements of the area. Meticulously sculpted native wood furniture crafted by skilled Costa Rican artisans brings the beauty of Nature indoors. All offer air-conditioning, ceiling fan, room service, TV, free local calls, work desk, minibar, bathrobe, a safe, toiletries, etc.
The overall attention to detail, combined with commitment to community and ongoing sustainability practices, has achieved for the hotel membership in the prestigious international Autograph Collection of hotels.
