Tortuga Lodge and Gardens

Located in the wilds of Tortuguero, Tortuga Lodge and Gardens offers rustic elegance in the jungle. Tortuguero is one of the most remote destinations in Costa Rica, only accessible by boat (25-pound weight limit) or plane. The lowland rainforest and wetlands create a natural barrier and defense for the wildlife that lives in this pristine region. Lodge amenities include a restaurant, bar, lounge, a salt water pool, and WiFi in some public areas.

Many species of animals inhabit Tortuguero National Park and the canals and forests surrounding it. Tortuguero is named after the endangered Green Sea Turtles that nest there from mid-July until mid-October, but there is much more to this area than the turtles. Several species of large cats, including jaguars, inhabit this region. Monkeys and sloths are abundant, frequently observed hanging in the trees along the canals. Giant crocodiles and caimans live in the Canals, as do lesser-seen manatees. Birdwatchers will delight at the many species of birds in this region including great green macaws during certain months and spoonbills.

Days and evenings at the lodge are usually quiet unless the macaws are in the area. The lodge provides a swimming pool, which is nice to cool down in after a day of exploring. They also have a beautiful garden area with tropical plants and palm trees. Many animals frequent this area including the macaws.

The lodge's Green Turtle Restaurant serves a delightful selection of Costa Rican and international plates. The bar offers Caribbean themed cocktails.

The rooms at Tortuga Lodge are clean and comfortable, but basic. All rooms have comfortable beds, private bathrooms, and WiFi. They do not have television or air-conditioning. Check the Amenities Section for a comprehensive list of amenities in each room style.

Please note that there is a $15 USD entrance fee to enter Tortuguero National Park. It is not possible to include this in your price as it must be paid in person upon arrival to the area.
