If you enjoy sit on top kayaking you will love kayaking on Lake Arenal. Imagine gliding across a lake surrounded by emerald green colored mountains and a volcano in the background!
After being picked up from your local area hotel you will be brought to the scenic Lake Arenal. Your guide will provide you with a life jacket and brief safety and instructional course. Then you will be on your way gliding across the beautiful lake.
Lake Arenal was dammed in the 1970s to produce electricity for the country. It is now three times the size of the original lake with a total area of 85 kilometers sq or 33 miles sq. There are a handful of islands. Beautiful natural scenery surrounds the lagoon. The gigantic Arenal Volcano can be seen to the east of the lake on clear days. The Talamanca Mountains rise to the south providing an emerald green picture perfect backdrop.
The tour will take you across the eastern portion of the lake. You will pass by the dam and then into a few backwater estuaries. If time permits you will also stop at an island or two. The guides will always go at group speed and you are expected to be on the water for about two to three hours with a total tour duration of around four hours including transfers.
While this is not a highly physically demanding kayaking tour such as whitewater kayaking, it does require shoulder and arm strength to maneuver the sit on top kayaks which can be susceptible to cross winds and choppy water on the lake.
After the tour you will be returned to your local area hotel. In addition to transportation this tour includes guide, equipment and snack.
