Hotel Belmar is a rustic but elegant Austrian chalet style eco-lodge located near the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The family-run hotel is constructed of high-quality local hardwoods, providing a warm and welcoming ambiance for honeymooners and couples. Lodge amenities include a restaurant and bar, spa, Jacuzzi, hiking trails, and WiFi in some public areas.
Monteverde is a unique region surrounded by tropical cloud forest in the north central Talamanca Mountains of Costa Rica. With high elevations and the surrounding forest, this area is cool, damp, and it rains a lot. The climate creates an ideal habitat for countless species of flora and fauna, some of which are endemic to the area. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve protects this vital habitat and the wildlife that lives there. It also attracts visitors from all over the world who come to see the tropical highland creatures and beautiful forest.
A guided hike through the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is practically a prerequisite when visiting Monteverde. The advantage with a guide is that they bring a wealth of knowledge and high-quality spotting scopes so you can observe the birds and animals up-close. Monteverde is also an excellent place for canopy activities. Soaring through the cloud forest canopy on a zipline adventure is thrilling, to say the least. The canopy hanging bridges allow one to hike through the treetops where most animals of the cloud forest live. Of course, there are plenty of other tours and activities available ranging from ATV riding to visiting local coffee farms.
Expect quiet days and evenings at the Belmar Hotel. Located in the countryside, and on a 9-acre private reserve, the lodge is always calm and peaceful. Two-thirds of the property is forested, and there is a stream, a small waterfall, and a pond. There is also a private groomed trail for self-guided walks. Tropical gardens with native plants and flowers surround the buildings.
The hotel's spa offers a variety of massages and treatments. Couples can indulge in couples massages, or one can enjoy a hot stone massage and treatment or reiki therapy.
The Restaurante Celajes offers Costa Rican inspired cuisine made with fresh ingredients. When possible, the hotel uses vegetables grown in their organic garden. The hotel also offers room service, breakfast in bed, picnic lunches, and private dinners for an additional fee. The Celajes Lounge Bar provides a variety of inspired cocktails, national liquors, and craft beers brewed on site.
Rooms at the Belmar Hotel are rustic but elegant. The woodwork is a constant reminder that you are in a quality ecolodge. All rooms offer beds with quality linens, mini-fridge, bathrobe and slippers, organic soaps and shampoo, hairdryer, and phone. Please note that none of the rooms have an air-conditioner due to the climate or televisions due to the ambiance. We enjoyed staying a little outside of the town at this hotel. We were able to walk to town when we wanted to but also have our little sanctuary to ourselves.

We loved the farm to table experience and how beautiful our room was. It was a little warm for not having A/C and a little too quiet for us with no TV. We knew this was part of the hotel but it just was not for us with it being as warm as it was. The food was incredible and the staff was very kind.

Really enjoyed this part of trip. The drive to get there was pretty rough and remote. Staff was nice and very helpful about places in town and night tour they set us up with (Walter was our guide) was great. Really beautiful grounds to walk around. Great view from room. Nice restaurant and good food.

This was the favorite part of our stay. We loved the location - easy walk into town. Most of the staff were really lovely. The food was absolutely outstanding and a good value for money.

Lovely accommodations and great location. Enjoyed being able to walk down to Santa Elena, but also to sit on our deck at the edge of the forest and hear the howler monkeys. The staff was also friendly and helpful.

Excellent restaurant but overpriced - worth a visit for the view.
The canopy room we had was exposed to the wind which in February is ever-present - the noise prevents a good night's sleep. A room in the main hotel would be a better choice.

Winds were wicked which prevented us from enjoying all that this hotel had to offer. Would have liked to have coffee in the room or to-go cups available in the restaurant. Restaurant food was excellent.

Perfect location for my birthday! Every staff member was amazing. I got to know all of them.the room, the restaurant, the reception lobby, the gardens, the laundry service, were all top notch. I am glad I had a chance to spend time here.

this hotel was very beautiful to me I love the wood and the view and the naturalness of it like no TV etc, however it would have been nice to have breakfast included but luckily we had our own fruit as I am vegan

This got a six due to the following: 1) We arrived there pretty wiped out from hiking and wanted to relax and enjoy the cloud forest. 2) Long stairs with no hand rail down to hot tub! We couldn't use it! 3) Room was a walk across the street, up a hill, and up another staircase. Did not help wiped out old fat people! 4) Sitting on our balcony to enjoy forest sounds had motorcycles going up and down road, someone on the back side of hotel taking pictures of the back side of hotel where showers have naught but frosted glass to exterior of hotel! This did not instill comfort level while naked in shower for wife!!! 4) Restaurant was not good selection for dinner and too pricey. We went to town and furthered our leg pain walking about town! Restaurant was great for breakfast though and good view!!! This hotel is better for younger, organic, vegetarian type folks! Nice beautiful place, just not our cup of tea!!

This hotel was very disappointing. The bed sheets had holes and the towels were old and dirty. They had permanent stains on them that looked like blood. Very gross. Will definately not stay here again. Monteverde was very beautiful.

We paid an extra $100 a night effectively for an indoor jacuzzi which we hardly used as it took so long to fill with hot water - about 1 hour. We did raise this with PTW who reacted immediately and the staff at the hotel did all they could to make amends in regard to our 'complaint' - including a complimentary breakfast. In all other respects the hotel is very nice, clean, comfortable and good food.

Hotel was exemplary. The highlight was certainly the food, but everything else was great too. We only wish that it was a little closer to town, but the views more than made up for it and we ended up walking into town and taking a taxi back ($3).

This little resort is one of the best experience I ever had. From staff to owner manager now how to treat their Guest.the room we stayed was awesome and the View oh my god what cannot describe it .
If I ever go back to Costa Rica this stop is a must .

A wonderful hotel in a beautiful setting but it was a bit boring for me. I missed a swimming pool and the jacuzzi was too difficult to get to for an old guy like me. Service, food was very good.

The hotel was nice. My complaint is only that it was cool and wet and the hotel room was not heated at all. I think they should have portable in room heaters available. The staff was good but I think the staff at Borinquen spoiled us.They were very exceptional
