Set in a nature reserve and surrounded by two acres of tropical gardens, the Flying Crocodile Lodge offers ten colorful, individually decorated rooms. This budget-friendly hotel is an excellent value, located at a ten minutes walk from Buena Vista Beach or six kilometers north of Samara town center and beach. Lodge amenities include a swimming pool, kids pool with slide, playground, restaurant, and WiFi in some common areas.
The Samara area, often overlooked by tourists, is well off the beaten path on the Nicoya Peninsula. The Nicoya is a region of beautiful beaches and authentic Costa Rican culture. A drive north from the Flying Crocodile will eventually bring you to Nosara, which is one of the best surfing destinations in Costa Rica. A short drive south will lead you to the Samara town center where there are small shops, restaurants, and bars. Of course, the main beach area is there as well, perfect for swimming. Playa Carrillo, a little further down the road, is one of the prettiest beaches in Costa Rica, ideal for swimming, surfing, and boogie boarding.
While Samara is better known for beach fun, there are some great activities available. Kayaking to Isla Chora in front of Playa Samara is a lot of fun. When you get there, you have the opportunity to snorkel and relax on the beach area. From June through October, nighttime turtle nesting tours offer an amazing way to get up close with nature. Tours are available to Ostional or Camaronal. The Flying Crocodile Flight Center offers ultra-light flights on an AutoGyro. This AutoGyro provides a unique way to observe the Nicoya coast.
Days and nights are quiet at the Flying Crocodile Lodge. Guests can relax in the swimming pool or wander through the tropical gardens in search of animals. There is also a recreation area with a pool table, ping pong, table football, and a trampoline. Kids will enjoy the children's pool with a slide. The restaurant serves full breakfasts, light lunches, and tasty dinners.
