Overview

White water rafting in inflatable kayaks is a thrilling way to see the rainforest! The Pejibaye River offers Class ll and Class lll rapids that are easy going with long stretches of calm in between to enjoy the paddle. This is a perfect tour for nature enthusiasts who like a bit of adventure.

Your tour begins when you are picked up from your hotel and driven to the Pejibaye river put-in point. There you’ll receive instructions on how to paddle and learn the cues given by your guide in order to maneuver your boat successfully.

You’ll climb into an inflatable high-quality kayak, called a Duckie, wearing your helmet and lifejacket. A guide will be with you in the kayak to help you navigate down the rapids. If you would like to paddle on your own, your guide will talk to you about your level of experience before allowing you to do so. Then off you go!

The Pejbaye River is a beautiful, relatively small river that is full of fresh, pristine water. There are gentle rapids throughout the river, alternating with medium rapids and long intervals where the water is calm. This is an excellent chance for beginners to learn how to go whitewater kayaking before heading out on more intense river runs.

Your knowledgeable rafting guide will point out and help you identify any birds or wildlife that you might see on your adventure. Commonly found in the Turrialba area are sloths, monkeys, toucans, and iguanas. You may see aquatic birds wading in the river water too.

During your tour, your group will pull off to the side of the river and your guide will prepare a delicious picnic lunch. Feel free to jump into the water and go for a swim or just relax on shore to soak in the beautiful nature surrounding you.

NOTE: During certain weather and river conditions, the inflatable Duckies might be changed to whitewater rafting boats to better navigate the current circumstances.

This tour includes a bilingual river guide, specialty equipment, lunch, and transportation from Turrialba. One way transport to the river may take from 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on where your hotel is located. Total time of kayaking/rafting tour, lunch, and transportation usually takes from 4.5 o 5.5 hours.

Please wear enclosed water shoes, bathing suit and clothes to get wet in, plus a towel and a change of clothes for after the tour. You might want to wear sunscreen and bring bug repellent.
