Overview

The Lost Iguana Resort and Spa delivers a jungle and rainforest experience unlike any other in the Arenal Volcano area. Set on 120 acres of preserved rainforest near Lake Arenal, this eco-friendly resort and boutique hotel provides an enchanting setting. The jungle is only steps away from your door, and all rooms have volcano views. Hotel amenities include a full restaurant and bar, tropical gardens, spa, hiking trails, natural frog and bird sanctuaries, a freshwater swimming pool, and a heated swimming pool. The lodge also offers WiFi in some public areas and most rooms. Golf carts are available for use on the premises as some of the rooms are up steep hills.

The outdoors experience at this family friendly eco-resort is extraordinary. A small river runs through the private reserve, and there are two hiking trails along it. The reserve connects with the Rio Arenal biological corridor, so there are many animals to be seen if you carefully look around. Howler monkeys are common, and capuchin and spider monkeys pass by occasionally. Sluggish sloths are often spotted napping in the trees. And several species of large cats, including mountain lions and ocelots, are known to pass through from time to time, though the odds of observing them are low. There are also many birds, including colorful toucans, aracari, motmots, hummingbirds, and many other species.

Visitors to Arenal usually come for the hot springs, adventure activities, and rainforest immersion, so you'll likely want to get out and explore. Several hot springs and hot spring resorts are nearby that are open to visitors. We would recommend either Tabacon or Ecotermales. Tabacon is a larger resort with more streams, pools, and people. Ecotermales is a small family-run hot springs that limits the number of guests. A hike at the base of the volcano is always fun and informative and combines well with a visit to the hot springs. Adventurers will enjoy activities such as whitewater rafting on the Rio Sarapiqui or Rio Balsa. There are many canopy zipline courses to choose from, allowing you to soar through the treetops of the rainforest. The Arenal Hanging Bridges are right around the corner from the Lost Iguana. They offer terrestrial trails interrupted by bridges that allow you to walk through the canopy of the jungle. A safari float on the Rio Penas Blancas or a riverboat safari through the Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge are both excellent choices for observing wildlife.

The resort's own Golden Gecko Spa is in the jungle by the river. Imagine the sounds of the rainforest and cascading water as you receive a massage by the fireplace. This may seem like a world away but will be right around the corner from your room at the Lost Iguana.

The Blue Hibiscus Restaurant is an indoor and outdoor restaurant, surrounded by nature and of course, views of the volcano. The restaurant serves a variety of International and Costa Rican dishes. The Palapa Bar is a double pool swim up bar with a relaxing vibe and large variety of tropical cocktails.

All of the four room styles at the Lost Iguana Resort are equipped with Tempurpedic beds, air-conditioning, cable TV, ceiling fans, mini-bar, coffee maker, phone, and WiFi access. The Villas Junior Suites, Villas Superior Suites, and Las Casitas offer a private Jacuzzi with amazing views. The Villas Junior Suite offers two bedrooms and an eating area with refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. The Villas Superior Suite offers two bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchenette. Las Casitas also has two bedrooms and a kitchenette.

There is no shuttle service to La Fortuna and taxi fares run around $30 each way.

Quite a climb up to room. I had mobility issues but staff delivered me to the room every time I asked. Great bartender and breakfast service for coffee was often slow but otherwise all great

The bed's are very hard and we had a few items turn up missing from the room. Other then that the hotel and staff were awesome.

Was not aware of how far from town it was. That was the only downfall.

A friendly oasis. Lovely staff. Rooms clean and view as promised. Restaurant was first class for breakfast, lunch a couple of days and dinner each night.
