Overview

Rafiki Safari Lodge is a luxurious wilderness tent camping experience, located within 842 acres of pristine primary and secondary rainforest along the Savegre River, 30 kilometers south of Manuel Antonio.  Rafiki Safari Lodge focuses on conservation, adventure, and sustainable tourism, thus creating a positive and renewed vibe to your Costa Rican vacation.  Rafiki Safari Lodge amenities include restaurant, bar, pool and water slide.

Guests can enjoy a wide range of activities including, whitewater rafting, waterfall tours, jungle safaris, birdwatching, horseback rides, hiking trails, cultural experiences, and much more!  Positioned in the heart of a rainforest, the lodge allows to create their own adventures by simply exploring the properties vastness.

Owned and operated by the Boshoff family, the atmosphere is very warm and inviting at Rafiki Safari Lodge.  Treat yourself to a home-cooked South African ‘braai’ (barbecue) or taste the restaurant's home-cooked cuisine during your stay.  Guests are able to lounge by the pool, listen to the sounds of the rainforest, or embark on their own adventures when they choose Rafiki Safari Lodge for their next Costa Rican getaway.

Rafiki offers luxury safari tents that are positioned atop hardwood platforms, each equipped with Costa Rican style rocking chairs for easy jungle viewing.  Additionally, the tents include large windows to ensure proper ventilation, canvas walls to protect from nature’s elements, and fire-heated showers.  All meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) are provided by lodge staff, truly giving you an experience like no other.

Rafiki Safari Lodge is not like your typical accommodation option in Costa Rica.  There aren’t any king size beds or ceramic bathtubs here, just a little taste of Africa in the beauty of Costa Rica.  We recommend these tents for people who adore the outdoors and don’t mind experiencing the country from the view of a jungle-side tent.

Please notice that to go into this lodge a 4x4 vehicle is required.

Staff and activities we did at the lodge were great. Loved the connection to the local community. Beds were comfortable and the bathroom was fabulous. Meals were delicious. My only complaint- it was always humid and we just never dried out so I felt sticky all the time and my clothes seemed mildewy. I heard there was a dry room but we didn't have the details- it would have been helpful to know that and yes, we could have asked about that ourselves but that is one piece of information I would have liked at check in.

Rafiki Safari Lodge more than met our expectations. It was the best part of our 8 day vacation.

Another unique place to stay at while in Costa Rica. Because of its location, so remote, you must have all your meals here, but, that's a PLUS. Their food is sensational and probably the best we had, during our lengthy stay. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. The day tour/hike we had during this stay is another "don't miss" it. It was conducted by a young man who lives in a nearby town (along with the rest of his family) and has been conducting these for 16 years. We were taken on a nice walk up and down cliffs to the most beautiful spot you've ever seen. There are six, yes six waterfalls surrounding you. A dip into the waters is so refreshing, especially if its a hot day and pictures under the falls are incredible.
Avoid the night walk at this location, as they are not worthwhile.
Sleeping in a tent is a little misleading, as they are not on the ground and have lovely bathrooms in the rear. Falling asleep to the sound of frogs and birds makes for a great nights sleep, once you zip up your tent.

Very expensive activities, tried to arrange in advance, but they did not respond.

Absolutely fantastic. Beautiful views of ocean. Tent is only a hundred yards from ocean. You literally hear the constant drum of the surf and the breeze through the palms - heavenly. I tried to stay awake to listen to it but couldn't. Some of the best sleep of my life. Wonderful! Wonderful hammocks to nap in. Miles of beach in either direction. We walked the beach for hours and saw very few people. Raw, untouched bit of paradise. Owner is very helpful. Safari style tent with solid floor. Separate bathroom with beautiful locking teak door. Safe in bathroom for valuables. Shelves in bathroom. Plenty of room for valuables in bathroom. Lots of wildlife. Highly recommend. Definitely one of the high lights of our trip.
