My family and I were blown away by the attention to detail on every square inch of the grounds at Poco A Poco! Absolutely gorgeous, clean, and alive. Little fire pits to stay warm on a chilly rainy night and read a book, large jacuzzi to chill with family and newly-made friends, and delicious on-site breakfast with made-to-order omelets, fresh local fruit, and much more in a beautiful setting to start your day. Location was perfect - very close to the center of town with plenty of shopping and local restaurants.

Staff was fantastic, especially the front desk manager/clerk, Axel, who was extremely friendly and helpful. He gave us some great tips on where to go and what to do. The room was clean and comfortable, with a nice little balcony where we could dry some of our wet clothes. We really enjoyed the little hiking trail around the property, and the sunset views from the dining veranda, where happy hour was held, couldn't be beat. It's also where we had breakfast each day, which was outstanding.

Resort was quite posh -- a little posher than we had expected or wanted. Resort was beautiful and well maintained. Lovely trail around the grounds. We ate at the resort restaurant the first night -- food was excellent but limited menu. The posted menus for the informal dining didn't have adequate GF options. We ended up eating outside the resort for the rest of our stay. Restaurants and shopping right outside the resort. Steep walk (but the whole area is mountainous) into town center that was delightful.

The hotel room was nice and clean but we requested a king size bed and got two very small double beds. That impacted our comfort level. Others who checked in the same day got king sized beds. The staff was lovely and we really appreciated the birthday gifts. Breakfast was good.

This was my least like hotel but mainly for the insanely expensive restaurant. We discovered quickly we could cross the street and eat much cheaper and had many options. Also our room was right beside the bar and was super noisy until closing.

I LOVED this hotel. It's a perfect 4 star. It was beautifully and thoughtfully designed throughout with tasteful nooks and lovely art/statues/etc. The room was comfortable and had an incredible view. I loved the little nature trail around the property, and the gardens were gorgeous. Also excellent location with lots of restaurants in walking distance. Roy (the concierge) was delightful.

This hotel exceeded my expectations. Wished we had another day or two and another night at this hotel. Loved the area and the staff were exceptional. Provided a lovely anniversary balloon bouquet and free bar and snacks in the room the first day.

The common area and grounds were amazing. Really loved them. And the food was very good. Our room was fine but it felt a little claustrophobic and the bathroom wasn't the best. Is there another hotel in this area that you would recommend? Coming from the Arenal Springs hotel, this definitely felt like a noticeable step down.

this was a very nice hotel in a perfect location. many nearby restaurants gave choices outside of the hotel for dining. the birthday greeting for Trevor was a very nice touch and my grandson loved the balloons. this hotel was exceptional in communicating with you. a whatsap message was almost instantly replied to. their recommendation for a guided night tour was underwhelming in comparison to all the other tours we had done. adequate breakfast buffet with sufficient choices.

Another great choice for hotels. Nice pool and great hot tub and fire pit, which I much appreciated after the dip in temperature.. Staff was very attentive to our needs. Great breakfast. Room was on the 4th floor and I never experienced such winds! Arrived in time for the Christmas parade. Amazing.

The grounds on theis hotel are lovely. When we finally checked in our room had a very overpowering smell of pinesol. Also we had lunch here when we arrived and it was very expensive for what we ordered. All the rest of meals other that breakfast we ate of site

The best hotel we stayed in. It was also the shortest stay :( but great experience. The closeness to the city and the walk ability of the hotel was perfect. The hotel had a nice pool area and hot tub. The walking path is nice for those experiencing nature. The restaurant was satisfactory if you didn’t want to walk to a local place. The breakfast was good. I honestly had zero complaints. I strongly recommend yall continue booking these types of hotels for guests to be able to experience all of what Costa Rica has to offer.

The best part of this hotel were the grounds they were beautiful. The worse part of the hotel was the noise. They were remodeling and the road outside of the hotel had heavy traffic. The rooms were clean and the breakfast was ok.

I should have reported it right away, but the screen in our bathroom window didn’t close, so bugs were getting in. I wedged a washcloth in the space so we could still keep the window open. The breakfast buffet was wonderful, but we didn’t eat at the hotel restaurant because there weren’t any vegan options for me. We found some restaurants downtown that met that need.

Arenal Springs Resort and Spa - was a top notch resort experience. The Hotel Poco a Poco was lovely as an eco-hotel and I had never had this type of experience before. The grounds were lovely with paths. They were also going through a large renovation. I am sure it will really be lovely once the renovation is completed.

Despite the weather as expected we were able to enjoy the area thoroughly. We loved exploring the area and we added a Don Juan coffee, chocolate, and sugar cane tour (recommend). Again we received a great presentation in our room per our anniversary complimented with a special chocolate strawberry treat. Restaurant menu and staff were excellent and good value!

Missed the hot springs of Arenal but the garden trail made up for it. We saw so much wildlife and birdlife on the trail behind the hotel. It was a hidden treasure.

The staff was great, the food in the restaurant is excellent as was the service, Although it was slow. Lily checked us in and was super accommodating and helpful. The room was very close to the street and there was a lot of noise from the cars. The hotel itself was definitely not our favorite.

Lilly at the front desk was very friendly, welcoming, and kind! She gave us great restaurant recommendations, and we felt very well taken care of. The bartender at happy hour made us great drinks, especially guaro sours. We enjoy the live music at the restaurant. All restaurant staff were great! The hotel was a perfect location, walking distance to everything we wanted. The hotel grounds were beautiful, and so fun to walk around and explore. The only room for improvement was we would have enjoyed the hot tub to be much hotter, and our beds were very firm, just a little bit too firm for us. But that is just a personal preference. I would definitely return to this hotel, and recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Monteverde.

The balcony was very small, more like a window box, but we did have lovely views of the sunset. The location of the hotel is good and close to a shopping mall which has several restaurants as well as some useful shop, including a couple selling outdoor gear. The hotel restaurant is a bit pricey but the food was good. Breakfast wasn't a buffet as is usually the case and you only get one choice from the menu although you get fruit juice, a fruit plate and coffee. We didn't use the pool or jacuzzi but they looked nice. We did enjoy the garden and garden trail and liked that a lot of the plants were named..

The staff were great, unfortunately in was really windy and th3 doors and windows do not fit so it was like sleeping in a wind tunnel. After 2 sleepless nights, I asked if the could send maintenance in to repair the windows that would not shut. We were immediately moved to a fabulous room in grounds… that’s what I call good service, staff couldn’t do enough. There were not complaints about the original room it was clean comfortable and had a lovely shower room but you can’t control the weather! Nice chocolates fruit and balloons for my birthday on arrival

Easy access to the village. Staff really welcoming and friendly.
Though... Had to learn to take a little less hot water when showering as they use ecological hot water system! Might be a good point to take up to your Northern Americans travellers! We are such big hot water users... But it brought a great light over our bad habit and we are now trying to do better! :-)

The one downside of this hotel was it was pretty loud since it was so close to the road. On the other hand, it was within walking distance of lots of good restaurants and some shopping. I liked the pool and the swim-up bar, and being served breakfast at the restaurant. I really liked the onsite nature trail and the yoga area. The shower in the bathroom didn't have a door, so the water got everywhere.

We loved this hotel. It was great to be able to walk into town, and then come back to the heated, covered pool. The pool bartender, Raphael, was very interesting and nice. The front desk was staffed by two wonderful ladies- Lillie and Jenny- we enjoyed them both and they were super helpful! Breakfasts were delicious.

Very nice small hotel right by the town. The hotel gardens was beautiful where we saw lots of birds and butterflies. The only small downside was that the Rooms were a bit outdated and had no view.

Our rooms were very comfortable, but the real jewel here was the grounds of the hotel. There is lots of outdoor seating both covered and uncovered, with beautiful views out through the hills and a trail through the forrest. We were lucky enough to have 2 nearly sunny days during July rainy season, and both afternoons we sat outside for happy hour and watched the sunset, while watching green parakeets and other birds. Also saw armadillos in the flower beds! Only downside was our rooms on the top floor of the tall building had some sort of nuts or other debris hitting the metal roof all night, which made for disrupted sleeps.

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel and their staff! It is absolutely gorgeous. The rooms are spacious and larger than expected. The renovations are amazing! We love the outside areas, including the seating areas and the pool and the children’s playhouse. The staff is incredible. We especially loved Elizabeth, Isaac, and Kevin. They were so helpful. It was so hard to leave this incredible hotel. Gardens and scenery you’re absolutely gorgeous! The staff is so accommodating. We wish this hotel was available to us in the states. The breakfast is incredible, and the menu is fantastic. Everyone was so kind. We ask for this hotel by name and will be sure to recommend it to others!

Good value for money. The garden room worked quite well for our family group of five people. We enjoyed the little garden walk every day, and even spotted wildlife like agoutis. The covered pool and jacuzzi were quite nice, and sheltered from the constant wind at these high elevations. Breakfast was fine.

I was surprised at the number of stairs we had to climb to our room and this got to be a bit of a challenge for me at times. I know you can't do anything about the wind, but the howling sound reminded me of a prairie snow storm!

I have no idea what we paid for the hotel b/c everything was packaged up together. The hotel did exceed my expectations. This is really a nice hotel. I was very afraid with the 3 star rating and how they say everything out there is different than our US expectations, but this was a really good hotel and you should always recommend it to Americans. It was super close to town and easy to walk to restaurants each night. The hot tub was great after hiking and zip lining.

I would recommend that future customers be warned about the temperature difference and the wind. VERY windy. Also we were lucky that we had long pants and sweatshirts. Dinner was reasonably priced and breakfast was good (not a buffet).

Pros: Professional and friendly staff, great ambiance, modern, newer appearance, good WiFi in room, good location and delicious breakfast, Cons: We could hear the people in the next room talking when we wanted to go to sleep, at night the rain was very loud on metal roof, no fridge in room, jacuzzi was not hot, cows and roosters woke us up at 4:45 A.M.

Beautiful grounds and view, nice restaurant with an ample menu. The pool was too cool to use, since it is under cover and gets no sun to warm it, but we did enjoy the hot tub. It would have been nice to have some storage space in the room for clothes -- couldn't unpack.

This was the smallest of our rooms but the hotel was quiet. There was not a lot of choices for breakfast but everything was tasty. The hotels location near the center of town made up for the smaller rooms without closets. Housekeeping was great. We loved the hot tub too.

This is tricky to review. The hotel was older and didn't have the amenities that we would have liked but it was the only hotel in Santa Elena that had a pool and where we could walk to the town. We very much enjoyed being able to walk around town to the various (and delicious) restaurants and also to the grocery store across the street. The grounds of the hotel were lovely with lots of mature and beautiful plants. I think it is a good choice for the area. We wish that we had only stayed two nights here instead of three. It was an overall good experience.

We had high-velocity winds the whole time we were in this location. One huge disappointment was the tepid temperature of the hot tub. It was only 93 degrees F. Hardly warm. I love going to hot tubs, but one trip to this barely warm tub left me disappointed.

I think our slight disappointment with this place was partially due to off season. There was very little staff, none at the pool, but always someone at the front desk for questions which was good. The big jacuzzi was what we complained about, but even after they upgraded us, the jacuzzi in the honeymoon sweet was toilet bowl cleaner blue. I assume that because it is so remote of a location, the same level of luxury/service that the Arenal resort offered is not possible there. There was nothing else wrong with the hotel, it was clean and comfortable otherwise. Two days was plenty here.

It was disappointing that we didn't have a fridge in our room considering that we had a grocery store across the street. We did have a little issue with ants getting in the (very tiny balcony) door. Quite expensive for what we had....bathroom desperately needs a update.

This is a wonderful hotel and the staff was very helpful. We had scheduled to do a zipline while in this area but it was a very windy day so we were not comfortable doing that so we decided to leave this hotel early and head to our stop. The hotel staff was so very gracious in helping us make that change. And I must add that PTW staff was also very helpful in making this change. We are very grateful to have had so many people to assist us with this last minute change.The only reason I'm rating the cleanliness at an 8 instead of a 10 is that there was an open terrium in the bathroom which had lots of bugs, mostly ants. And while the room was clean when we got there within a very short time the ants from the terrium made their way all over the bathroom.

Hotel was nice, food wwas excellent in the restaurant. you could walk to the small downtown and to catch buses to the hiking areas. Hotel was undergoing renjovation of the spa located by the pool and hot tub so it was not ideal but updates must happen. Views from the pool are were wonderful.

We knew we were not at the resort anymore. 4th floor with no elevators was not my favorite, but we got used to it. Hot tub and pool areas seemed abandoned and "basic." Good in the sense that we could relax there on our own, but I never saw a staff person in that area and only 2 other guests sitting on a balcony overlooking the area... just felt "dead" around there most of the time. Better than crowded and loud though.

We were in the room from hell the first night (room 45). The wind kept slamming some part of the roof or awning on to the side of our room, which was a corner room. We got NO sleep, and for the first time in history did we ask to get another room. To the hotel's credit they found us another room, and we finished the stay happy and content. The restaurant was one of the top restaurants I have visited, and that says a lot. The food was exquisite, and we chose to eat there every night, despite the fact that we always try to spread out our dining experiences. The cost was fair, and the staff great. The hotel desk also recommended a tour to Don Juan Coffee (?), and it was well worth the money and time. Nice.

Again we were greeted with a wonderful fruit drink and an excellent staff member. The reason I marked the overall experience only a 9 was weather related - the wind blew constantly and it was noisy - like we were in a major storm. It was a nice hotel for a short stay. Restaurant was good for breakfast only, but it was near some nice restaurants in the city. Location was perfect, would not have wanted to stay up the hill in Monteverde. Also, poor wi-fi, only available early in the morning and late at night.
