Sky River Drift is a super adrenaline adventure tour that will have you ziplining over the rainforest to a 130 foot high platform where you’ll take a hands free assisted vertical jump into individual river rafts before shooting the rapids for 3 more miles. This exhilarating non stop 2.5 to 3 hour joy ride will take you to another level of thrill seeking in the Arenal area as you explore the surreal tropical beauty found only in Costa Rica.
Your tour will start when you are picked up from your hotel and driven to Sky Adventure Headquarters on the outskirts of La Fortuna. Here you will meet your bilingual guides who will provide high quality safety equipment and describe the order of events that will unfold during your tour. As the river rafting segment is located deep within the jungle, Sky has come up with an innovative way to reach the river: Zip lining through the forest canopy then taking a guided free-fall jump down to the river where your individual rafting tube awaits.
Setting out as a group you’ll reach your first zip lining cable in the lush tropical rainforest where your guide will demonstrate the proper use of the equipment including how to break and slow down. You’ll zip more than 3,000 feet on 3 state of the art carbon fiber cables hundreds of feet above the forest floor with many chances to see amazing views of the surrounding canyon and jungle.
Your last zip line will end on a platform 130 feet up in the air. From here you will step off as your guides control your hands-free vertical descent using a DEUS German engineered pulley system. Two guides, one above you and one below you will be holding on to your safety rope and supervising your free fall jump down to the river. When you reach the bottom your guide will release you from the rope and provide assistance as you climb into your specially designed individual river rafting tube.
The Piedras Negras River is no “lazy river” - it’s a fast moving exciting ride down rapids with twists and turns guided by the natural river current. The highly durable river rafts, especially designed for this river, cushion you from large rocks and help absorb the gentle jolt as you bump into one another on your way down. Hold on tight to the handle bars, this is going to be a bumpy ride!
As adventure junkies themselves, your guides will probably look like they are having just as much fun as you are, but they take safety very seriously. There will be more than one guide with you on the river supervising, and all guides are highly trained with first-aid certification.
Admission fee, safety equipment, bilingual guides and transportation from La Fortuna are all included in this tour. One way transport from your hotel to Sky Adventures - Arenal can take up to 45 minutes depending on your pick up location. Combined time of the tour with round trip transportation is between 3.5 and 4.5 hours. Please wear bathing suit, clothes to get wet in, totally enclosed hiking/river shoes and sunscreen, plus bring dry clothes to change into. A photographer will be available to document your experience and you can choose if you want to purchase photos at the end of the tour. Minimum height required: 1.40 meters high (measured from head to toe) and 210 pounds maximum weight.

We were unable to do the river drift because it had rained so much the night before so they closed the river. Happy they know when to close it and they let us choose a different activity which was the other adventure course and it was a great time.

The guides worked extremely hard to make our experience a good one. The biggest problem was the water level and as too low and made it a dangerous adventure I wanted to end but could not leave until we traversed the entire distance. The zip line experience was fabulous.
