Today you will learn to surf in Puerto Viejo! Surf's up and stress is down! Surf Lessons are a great introduction to surfing for people of all ages. If this is your first time, you will learn the basics and hopefully ride your first wave during the lesson. And if you are a more experienced surfer, your professional instructor can help you master some new techniques and tricks.
The tour will start when you meet your surf instructor at the surf school office in Puerto Viejo. Your enthusiastic surf instructor will unload the equipment and find a comfortable spot for the on-land portion of your lesson.
After learning about safety tips, you’ll receive some technical information including instructions on how to go from lying down on your board to “popping” up into a standing position - a key move for all surfers. Then you will practice on land, getting the feel of the moves before heading out and trying it in the water.
The beaches surrounding Puerto Viejo are stunning. The picturesque shoreline, with white sand beaches and warm turquoise sea, looks like it might be somewhere you saw once in a magazine. Not only is the scenery breathtaking, but the varied waves arriving along the coast cater to a wide range of surfing levels. Depending on the experience of your group, your guide will choose the perfect spot to enhance your learning experience.
When you head out into the ocean, your instructor will follow closely behind you and offer support and encouragement throughout your lesson. It usually takes some time to get the hang of surfing, and once you do, you will probably not want to leave the water! Your guide will be there every step of the way to fine-tune your technique. After a bit of practice, you’ll likely just “pop up” and experience the feel of riding your first wave of the day.
This tour includes a bilingual instructor, rash guard, and a surfboard for your lesson. Transportation is not included in this lesson but is easy to arrange. Contact us for details if you would like to add transportation. You must meet your instructor at their Puerto Viejo office. Please bring a bathing suit, towel, sunscreen, a change of clothes and a bottle of water.

This was so great. I got up on the board!! I've never surfed before and Hershel was a great teacher. He has an obvious love and respect for the ocean and that comes through.

Our instructor was good fun and very patient. Managed to surf onto the beach before the end of the lesson ( after a fashion !)
