Volcano Lodge, Hotel & Thermal Experience makes a wonderful base for exploring La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano region. The lodge is just off the main road between La Fortuna town and Lake Arenal, central to many of the activities in the area. Arenal offers more adventure tour options than any other region in Costa Rica and there are plenty of nature activities as well.
Between adventures, guests of the lodge can enjoy the resort's hot springs fed pools or cool down in the beautiful cool water pool. The views are spectacular and the lounge areas are beautiful, surrounded by palm trees and tropical plants and flowers. With all of the tropical flora, birdwatching can be quite interesting in the mornings and evenings as colorful birds sing their songs. Of course, your kids will be entertained as they enjoy splashing in the kid's pool or having a blast at the playground.
The full-service spa has three treatment rooms. Whether you are want to enjoy a relaxing massage with your significant other or indulge in a treatment on your own, you are sure to be delighted by the spa's luxurious menu! Choose from Swedish massage, deep tissue, reflexology, body wraps, facials, and many other treatments.
The open-air Sura Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. A traditional breakfast is included with your stay. The casual restaurant serves a delightful selection of tasty Costa Rican and International style meals for lunch and dinner.

The rooms were a bit small but had a great view. The staff was very nice and friendly. The hot springs were great. The only BIG complaint I have was that the food was not only very expensive but really bad. I had to send food back twice for being so salty that I couldn't eat it (I have almost never sent food back in my life). The restaurant would have been overpriced even if the food was good, but given how bad the food was it was extremely disappointing. We had to eat a lot of meals there because of traveling with our infant son and it was a disappointment every day. I should mention that this was just for lunch and dinner, the breakfast buffet was very good. Other than that, the hotel was good and well located. The pools and hot springs were impressively clean and we saw them being tended to often. They should also change the lighting in the restaurant and parking area from being extremely bright fluorescent to yellow or soft light. I think that would vastly improve the atmosphere. So improve food and lighting and this would be a fantastic hotel.
