Overview

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION: Corcovado tour in package will be at La Sirena ranger station unless weather/ocean conditions/park rules/guest limitations prevent this. Only if any of these conditions happens, you will go to San Pedrillo ranger station.  Today’s Corcovado National Park tour is known as the backpacker’s dream. You will begin the tour from Drake Bay where you will meet the boat captain and board the waiting boat. A 30 to 45-minute boat ride over to the protected park will give you an opportunity to look for marine life and shore birds. Once you arrive at the San Pedrillo Ranger Station you will go on a guided hike of approximately 2 miles through a wide variety of eco-systems supporting different kinds of wildlife in their natural habitats. Your naturalist guide will share a wealth of information about the ecosystems and their inhabitants and help identify any wildlife you may encounter. The hike will include a visit to the San Pedrillo Waterfall. At some point, lunch will be provided. Your tour includes boat transportation to and from the ranger station, a naturalist guide, park entrance fees, and lunch. Total time of tour and round trip boat transportation combined can take from 5 to 7 hours depending on the size of your group. Please wear non-skid, completely enclosed hiking shoes, lightweight sun-protective clothing, and bring sunscreen, insect repellent, rain gear, binoculars, and a camera. You might like to have additional snacks and plenty of drinking water. This is a moderately difficult hike that will take the backpacking enthusiast into the wonderful world of an untamed jungle where you can experience first-hand Costa Rica’s tremendous biodiversity. Copa del Arbol will not confirm exact tour dates until within one week of the activity. This means that the order, date, and time, may be different than is listed on your itinerary. Please note that although we do our best to provide the Corcovado park tour requested, we cannot guarantee which station you will be going to as the park service has greatly reduced the guest allowance into each park. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but it is the way this particular lodge works.

Our guide (Issac) was unbelievable in what he could spot and without him we would have missed 90% of the bird, animal and insect life we got to see. He was fantastic!

Overall it was a pretty long morning hiking in quite hot and humid conditions and while we got to see enough flora and fauna to be well satisfied, the wildlife wasn't as abundant as the reviews of Corcovado National Park had led us to believe. We were on a tour to the northern-most ranger station (San Pedrillo) and in hindsight investing in the longer boat trip to the Sirena Ranger Station further south may have been better. Other guest at Copa de Arbol who had done that tour seemed to have much better viewing experience.

As we know though, it is luck as to whether the wildlife cooperates or hides when to try to see it!

Manuel, the guide, was amazing. He was knowledgable and took great photos for us using our phones and his spotting scope.
