Trapp Family Country Inn

Alajuela suburbs

Good to Know

Trapp Family Country Inn offers a tranquil, colonial-style retreat just one mile from Juan Santamaria International Airport in the Alajuela suburbs. Guests can enjoy tropical grounds with centenary fig trees, a swimming pool, and private balconies overlooking the gardens. Superior Standard rooms provide comfort with two queen beds and a private bathroom, making it an ideal stop for couples, families, or friends between journeys. The inn provides family-like service and practical amenities for a relaxing pause.

A garden pause close to the airport

An airport stop can still have a garden, a balcony and time to linger. Trapp Family Country Inn sits just one mile from Juan Santamaria International Airport, yet its colonial style, centenary fig trees and tropical grounds invite a slower mood. Arrive, unpack and let the pool or your private balcony become the next place on the itinerary.

Clean, comfortable Superior Standard rooms have a spacious layout, two queen-size beds and a private bathroom, with a hairdryer and cable television for familiar comfort. Private balconies overlook the pool and gardens, giving couples, families or friends somewhere to enjoy the leafy outlook before heading out or turning in.

A little countryside between journeys

If you have time beyond an overnight stay, the Alajuela countryside adds coffee, craft and culture to the trip. A full-day Doka Coffee Plantation, Grecia and Sarchi tour introduces coffee and sugar-cane production, Grecia’s metal church and Sarchi’s painted oxcarts. The Poas Canopy Tour brings a more active day, taking you ziplining through cloud forest.

There is also good reason to leave part of the day free. Stroll beneath the old fig trees, listen for local birdlife or take a swim. Family-like service accompanies a snack bar, internet, laundry, a reservation desk, safety deposit box and parking. The first or last day of the vacation can have a little breathing room here, rather than becoming only another journey.

very accommodating and a great stop on the way to the airport. Staff very helpful.

Okay, we loved the quaint and unique inn, as far as that goes. However, we had trouble with the TV, so after several staff tried to fix, we gave up on this. When a plane took off from the nearby airport, we thought the plane was coming right through our room. One took off around 2-3 in the morning. We had dinner, but were bery disappointed with the service and food. They could do so much better.

Perfect for a small hotel. the security guard offered us water and beer and brought both in cold mugs to our room even though it was 10:30pm when we arrived. When we needed to leave early for Tortuguero they had coffee waiting for us at 4:30 in the morning. Wonderful place and wonderful people..
