The Mariposa Bed and Breakfast offers a charming but budget-friendly lodging option in Monteverde, Costa Rica. The Monteverde region is one of the most famous cloud forests in the world, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. This is a biological wonder and home to countless rare, endangered, or endemic species. Many visitors to Monteverde come for the amazing birdwatching opportunities, including the possibility of catching a glimpse of the beautiful resplendent quetzal or listening to the amazing sounds of bellbirds in the forest. The best places for birdwatching include the aforementioned cloud forest reserve or the Curi Cancha Reserve which is emerging as a favorite among birders. Other ecotourists come for the amazing canopy tours that Monteverde is famous for. The canopy zipline adventure is a thrilling way to soar through the jungle canopy via wheel and harness. For a slower pace, take a hike through the forest canopy on one of the amazing hanging bridges tours.
The Mariposa is located within a few minutes drive of either the Curi Cancha or Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. It is also located about 15 minutes drive from Santa Elena town where you can shop for souvenirs or get a bite to eat. You can even walk the nearby unpaved road in search of the beautiful birds and other animals that inhabit this area.
Rooms at the Mariposa Bed and Breakfast are basic but comfortable with views to either the cloud forest or tropical gardens. The Standard Rooms have a coffee maker, safe deposit box, and WiFi. The Two-Bedroom Apartment has a stocked kitchen, living room, balcony, safe box, and WiFi internet.

Loved this hotel! Only issue was how cold it got at night and there were no heaters. But everything else about this place was lovely.

Esteban was very helpful and answered all of my questions quickly. The location was good for walking to the MV Cheese Factory as well as Stella's (1300 meters total from the B&B) for ice cream, coffee and treats. We also walked to the Cloud Forest Reserve from Mariposa. Breakfast was amazing!!

Estaban was one of the kindest humans I have ever met! He was very knowledgeable about the area! Beautiful location right near Monteverde Reserve, a little far from town but a quick bus/cab ride away!

Mariposa Bed and Breakfast was a great experience. Our room had a beautiful view of the forest and we were able to view some birds in the early morning. Breakfast every day was prepared quickly and it was delicious. The room was really cold at night (out of their control) but they provided us with extra blankets which helped.

Great staff. Super friendly. This family was so sweet. And the mom made the BEST pancakes ever. They made sure that we were taken care of and even cam to help out with the night critters. Great recommendations for where to go in the city and sent us to one of the best places to eat.

A simple but lovely place, with a lovely family looking after us and in a very good location for accessing the local walking areas, shops and eating places. We really enjoyed our time here.
