Room furnishings were pretty basic. Could have used more substantial chairs and table. Very nice restaurant with excellent food and service.
Find your place to stay
Monteverde Cloud Forest Lodge offers an immersive eco-experience within the Bellbird Biological Corridor, nestled between the Santa Elena and Monteverde reserves. Guests can explore on-site trails for birdwatching, dine on Costa Rican cuisine at Motmot Restaurant with forest views, and unwind in suites featuring natural materials and large terraces. This 3-star ecolodge provides a tranquil retreat focused on nature, offering a quiet rhythm amidst the region's vibrant excursions.
A meal on the balcony at Motmot Restaurant can turn into a little birdwatching, and a walk can begin on the lodge's own trails. Monteverde Cloud Forest Lodge sits in the Bellbird Biological Corridor between the Santa Elena and Monteverde reserves, with forest around it and a quieter rhythm beyond the region's larger excursions.
The grounds make exploring close at hand a natural part of the stay. Look for birds, enjoy the forest and leave room to pause instead of treating every walk as a route to somewhere else. The surrounding highlands attract birdwatchers hoping to spot resplendent quetzals, bellbirds and emerald toucanettes, but the pleasure is also in paying attention to whatever the day reveals.
Beyond the lodge, reserve visits, hanging bridges and canopy ziplines offer contrasting views of Monteverde. A horseback ride along countryside dirt roads and forest trails gives a different pace to the day, while a coffee farm visit offers a closer look at rural life. You can explore widely and still come back to an evening that is typically quiet.
Motmot Restaurant serves Costa Rican dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, using natural herbs and spices. The balcony gives you somewhere to watch birds while enjoying your meal, making time at the table part of experiencing the surroundings. At the bar, tropical cocktails and local or imported beers give a forest day an easy ending.
Artisanal accents and beautifully crafted hardwoods give the suites an understated warmth. Large terraces and sitting areas extend the accommodation toward the forest, creating somewhere to spend time between walks and meals. Manakin Suites offer 60 square meters, while Euphonia Deluxe Suites provide 80, a useful distinction when extra space is part of the holiday you want.
Pillowtop mattresses and luxurious bedding make coming back after a day outdoors feel inviting. Manakin and Euphonia accommodation combines twin vanities, soft bathrobes and solar-heated rain showers with high-speed WiFi and laptop safes. Compare the current room choices, including the Tityra Junior Suite, for the specific layout and comforts you would like.
There are no televisions or minibars. That gives the rooms a clear character: comfortable retreats where the terrace, the forest and the quieter hours take center stage. Choose the lodge when trails, birdwatching and time in that landscape matter as much as a full calendar of outings.

Location, dining, and service were excellent. Appreciated the personalized nature of a smaller sized resort.

What stood out at Monteverde was the staff at the restaurant. So wonderful and amazing. Dennis remembered our names! And we loved the food too.

The hotel staff is just wonderful. Restaurant staff is excellent, patient with my Spanish again. The restaurant serves excellent food . The location is beautiful but remote. In retrospect we should have looked for a hotel which is more centrally located (walking distance to restaurant, this is impossible at this hotel). The only downside of this hotel is the Wine price list which is ridiculously expensive (minimum of $85USD for a bottle...). But again, the staff is just fantastic. The wildlife is very present and fun to watch at breakfast.

The hotel is in a great location and the hotel itself is beautiful and has amazing views. However, the bed was very uncomfortable, both of us woke up with sore hips in the middle of the night. The staff overall was very accommodating and nice but not very cheerful.

This place was magical... I loved the lodge, the location, the quiet, the food, the people, the scenery... What a picture perfect location! The rooms were very simple, and the only thing I can say was that you could hear everything through the walls... The bathrooms were nice and updated, the rooms, very simple. I liked the little porch we had and really would recommend the spa services!

Both of us found the staff at this hotel to be kind of rude and not that friendly. They were really short with us while we were talking to them and asking them things about the restaurant menu, etc. Also, there was a lot of staff that didn't speak English. But the grounds and rooms were beautiful.
The rooms were beautiful and the restaurant was the best on our trip. The staff was friendly and helpful. They also have a nice hiking trail.
