Monteverde Country Lodge is a rustic but charming ecolodge in Monteverde, Costa Rica. The budget-friendly lodge offers comfortable facilities, authentic Costa Rican hospitality, and is surrounded by well-maintained tropical gardens. Hotel amenities include a restaurant and bar, kids playground, meeting room, and WiFi in some public areas.

Visitors to Monteverde come for the cloud forest and related eco-tourist activities. This is a cool and damp region, but that is also what makes it possible. Flora and fauna of this region flourish in this climate. Life springs in every shape and form in the cloud forest!

The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is at the top of most visitor's lists. Bromeliads and epiphytes cover the trees, and exotic bird species can be observed in their natural environment. A professional guide with a spotting scope is highly recommended to enhance your visit. You may have the chance to see sloths and other mammals, but with a little luck, you may be able to see Emerald Toucanettes, Bellbirds, Hummingbirds, or the rare Resplendent Quetzal.

Monteverde certainly has more to offer than the Reserve. Visit one of the local coffee plantations for a glimpse of rural Costa Rican culture. A horseback ride at a local finca is another way to take in the rural countryside and culture. High-speed ATV rides provide a thrilling way to explore the backroads. Canopy ziplines offer another exciting high-speed adventure activity allowing you to soar through the canopy of the cloud forest via cable, wheel, and harness.

Monteverde Country Lodge offers an onsite restaurant and bar. The restaurant serves a fusion of local Costa Rican and International cuisine. Local ingredients are used when possible, and the menu has plenty of offerings. The bar serves an excellent selection of tropical cocktails, local beers and liquors, and wines.

While the lodge does not have a lot of amenities on site, it is within walking distance to town where there are restaurants and shops. There's a great little ice cream shop right around the corner and don't miss out on the chocolate shops! Worth mentioning, Monteverde Country Lodge has a sister hotel (Hotel Poco a Poco) a couple of kilometers away. Guests can use the facilities of the other hotel, which include a swimming pool and Jacuzzi, exercise room, and Kids Club. Transportation is not included.

The rooms are basic but comfortable and clean. The Superior Rooms offer cable TV, safe-deposit box, coffee maker, phone, hairdryer, and a private bathroom with hot water. The Classic Rooms are older and in a different building, offering cable TV, telephone, safe deposit box, and a private bathroom with hot water. While the Classic Rooms are more affordable, we recommend the newer Superior Rooms.

In summary, Monteverde Country Lodge is a charming little ecolodge with affordable rates. The rooms are small but nice. The staff is warm and friendly, and the location is convenient to town.

Our room was placed right beside stairs and it was super noisy trying to sleep. A group of young guests likes to hang out and play on the stairs yelling. Not sure where parents were. Tried several times to phone the front office but no one answered. This was on going but worst at 10-11 pm. I also felt with the amount of stairs there should have been an elevator. It was a long walk from the lobby to the room and a lot of stairs for my mom. Thankfully there was someone to help with the luggage.

Even though this was budget compared to Arenal Paraiso, we loved it here. The staff was welcoming and served us juice while giving us the rundown on everything we needed to know upon check-in. We had lunch before arrival and went back into Santa Elena after we got settled. Happy hour (Tico Time:>) was very nice back at the hotel and we got takeout from Taco Taco for dinner. The beds were a little less than great but the showers/bathrooms here were wonderful, the grounds were beautifully kept, breakfast was good and we went across the street to the de Lucia and had an excellent dinner. Birds and butterflies here were awesome right at the hotel and we were cozy and happy despite quite a bit of rain during our visit to Monteverde.

The hotel staff were very kind and inviting,.

It was a bit far out from town, quite too simple and really cold in the room.

Nice place, would have been nice to have a pool but we were busy doing other things so it didn't matter.

We were expecting rudimentary road conditions- and our expectations were met.

Comfortable, clean, safe.

Great service.

Overall this was a good hotel. The only problem for us was that we were situated right by the road which was very dusty and the dust just covered everything and the wind was very apparent because we were at the end of the hotel. The beds were okay but certainly not the quality of the other two accommodations. Also it would have been nice to have a small fridge. The staff however were wonderful and the ladies that cleaned our rooms were excellent!

The hotel was very cold and windy, making the doors rattle constantly though the night. We would have liked a dresser and more surfaces to put things on.

5 days in the monterverde is too long, I would suggest 3 days maximum !

Lovely lodge. Helpful staff. Good breakfast. It was unseasonably cold and there was no heat in the room. Otherwise great.

Very nice park like setting

Liked the hotel and location but could only get one key to the room and the door could only be locked - otherwise the door would not close.

The breakfast could have been better

Restaurant experience was great and good value so we didn't have to eat anywhere else. Hotel staff were very good in accommodating our requests. Would definitely stay here again.

The only reason I didn't choose 10's everywhere was because the room was very cold and no heaters were available for the rooms. The one they did have didn't work.

A little bit far from town. Windy.

It was a totally different world. everything was clean, no noise. We loved the contrast. the breakfast came very slowly (we had a morning tour, and no much time)

I would of arranged all of the beds to face the TV. If possible have ceiling fans in the rooms.

Very humid in the room, but better once we got a new 'dehumidifier/fan'. One bed was in a darker area of the room and did not have a bedside table or lamp, so we didn't use it. Otherwise, beautiful facilities and grounds. Nice breakfast.

Showers were cold in the morning if you didn't take them early enough.

Nice place except for hot water not being available in the morning (solar water tanks). This should be noted to potential users.

The hotel was nice and we like the restaurant. Within walking distance to several great places. We went to town, headed the other direction and found Stella's bakery (highly recommended) and then down the hill to some great jungle trails with waterfalls and views.

Excellent location, friendly staff, peaceful.

We liked this place.

The Monteverde Country Lodge was my least favorite accommodation on this trip. It was fine, except for the breakfast experience every morning. The dining room was overcrowded and we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. On the last morning we got so frustrated that we took our breakfast outside despite the wind and cold. Also, the staff in the dining room at breakfast time seemed overwhelmed by the onslaught of guests and couldn't keep up. The food ran out. The coffee ran out. Etc. And then you had to wait for it to be replenished. A little chaotic, I thought.

No wifi in room. Wifi only available in restaurant and lobby. Very disappointed especially because it rained for 2 days so I was in my room. I don't think the website about the hotel mentioned no wifi in rooms.

Only issue was the sound barrier between rooms was very thin. I could hear the kids next door talking.

Beautiful hotel, so clean so convenient location. However, there's no insulation so we could hear everything. But I guess it's eco friendly hotel so it's perfect. Beautiful, peaceful place.

everything was great except the noise.

Beautiful hotel but the beds were not comfortable at all. Plus, the sound proofing in the room was very poor quality. We could hear everything that was going on outside down in the courtyard and the wind was extremely loud at night that it kept us up. Other than that the location was nice and the breakfast was delicious.

A nice place. It had both close restaurants and we could easily walk or get a taxi as needed.

This lodge was a little walk from the town but I'm a very nice area. There was wonderful hiking trails about 5 minutes away where we go to interact with many anaimals. There was always a lice band at meals which was meat.

Ok hotel. Best part was the location since we could walk in both directions easily on our free days. Also didn't know that cheese factory does not make cheese on Wednesday's so we walked over for a tour that day for nothing.

The rooms very clean and attractive, with very comfortable beds. Food was pretty good and staff courteous and helpful. Facility had no pool or hot tub, and offered no view of area. However found some good restaurants and museum nearby.

Did not sleep well the first night due to howling wind and noisy neighbours. Hotel was nice but nothing special. Staff were the best, very welcoming. Seeing many birds on the premises was great, and being able to easily walk to Saint Elena was great.

The hotel catered to large bus groups which made it difficult to impossible to find a place to sit for a meal or drink. The grounds are pretty and welcoming, but not for a couple with large groups. The rooms were very comfortable.

The hotel was very good. My only mention is that my room was close to a small courtyard behind the restaurant and reception and the first night there was some kind of entertainment going on and it was pretty loud in the room, other than that it was excellent.

Very average after Arenal Springs. The transportation by boat to the hotel was lovely but embarking and disembarking with luggage was quite difficult and I had a fall.

Would have been nice if hotel was closer to town center. The weather was quite cool and too windy

This is a peaceful rustic lodge in the mountains. It is located near town so I could walk there. The meals were excellent and the breakfast that was provided was copious.

Very nice. This place had a nice atmosphere, comfortable and not impersonal. Good service.
