Two rocking chairs wait on the veranda of each spacious bungalow. Follow the canals, then return at your own pace

Aninga sits on a peninsula along Costa Rica’s northeastern coast, where rainforest river channels run parallel to the Caribbean shoreline. Included meals and tours give the package its structure, with the front porch and private jungle trails offering a more independent way to appreciate the setting. Monkeys, sloths, iguanas, crocodiles, giant anteaters and toucans are among the region’s wildlife; look with patience, with no particular animal promised on an outing.

On your second day, a sunrise canal cruise is an option, with another canal outing possible in the afternoon and a guided night hike after buffet dinner. You can leave the intervals for the pool, a trail walk or time in the cabin. A full-day restaurant, bar and WiFi around the premises cover practical needs, while spa services provide another way to relax for an additional charge. From the last week of July to around the first week of October, a guided night walk to observe nesting green turtles is typically an optional outing. A complimentary cart brings coffee, tea or hot chocolate to your door, giving you time on the veranda before breakfast. The cabin’s open-air character also brings the forest’s nighttime sounds close as animals move through the trees or forage on the ground, and a howler monkey may provide an early wake-up call. The journey and the included meals

Tortuguero is reached by boat or plane. The boat approach from the nearest road-accessible point takes approximately an hour, with a maximum luggage allowance of 25 pounds per person for boat or flight arrivals. A welcome cocktail and buffet lunch begin your stay, followed by a visit to the small Tortuguero village and dinner back at the lodge. Departure starts with breakfast; once back on the road, a provided lunch is part of the onward journey.

National park admission is excluded from the package. Allow for the $17 adult and $5 child rate for ages 5–11, with children under four admitted free; confirm current fees and the charge for a four-year-old before travel.
