Tortuguero, located on Costa Rica’s northeastern Carribean shore, means land of turtles as its beaches host a protected nesting area for several species of sea turtles. One of the most biologically diverse and dense regions in the country, the area is only accessible by boat with a network of canals running through the jungle and down to the Caribbean Sea. A fusion of ecosystems created by beaches, freshwater lagoons, wetlands, and rainforest all coming together, makes Tortuguero an incredible place to view animals in their natural habitats and offers excellent birdwatching opportunities. Wildlife abounds here thanks to the nearby Tortuguero National Park, originally founded to protect endangered species.
With so much nature and biodiversity, most activities and tours revolve around nature tours, quietly winding through the canals for up-close wildlife viewing where land is impossible to penetrate by foot. Cultural tours of the colorful fishing village connect the traveler with friendly locals who enjoy showing off their Pura Vida way of life. Night tours provide a chance to see turtles laying their eggs and baby turtles hatching. Your stay at the Lodge includes a daily itinerary of exciting adventures.
On the property at Evergreen Tortuguero Lodge, you’ll find a refreshing swimming pool with hydro jets, comfortable lounging area, and bar. The beautiful open-air restaurant surrounds you with spectacular views as the staff provides elegant service presenting several courses of delicious cuisine for every meal during your stay.
