No other country in the world has Costa Rica’s rich diversity of wildlife. The Butterfly Garden, Hummingbird Gallery and Herpetarium bring you in contact with some of the most beautiful and interesting species of birds, butterflies and reptiles. For instance these exhibits include the Blue Morpho butterfly with its 8 inch wing span, 14 different varieties of hummingbirds as well as diverse population of colorful frogs, lizards, geckos and snakes.
Each individual guided tour provides a wealth of interesting information as you explore the life cycles of these creatures in their home-like habitats. Your naturalist guides have studied these animals in depth and draw from their deep knowledge base to share with you the wonder of nature and the need to protect the environment. Over one quarter of Costa Rica’s land mass is designated as protected reserves and national parks to maintain the healthy diversity so unique to this country.
The Butterfly Garden, a 29,000 square foot area of butterfly attracting flowers and trees is the largest live exhibit in Costa Rica. Here you will not only see an array of multi-colored wings but also a nursery where you can observe their amazing life cycle as they transition from egg to caterpillar, pupa and adult.
In the Hummingbird Gallery hundreds of dazzling hummingbirds buzz around you as they visit more than a dozen feeding stations giving you an opportunity to watch their aerial antics and take close up photos or videos. They may even land on your finger if you stay perfectly still.
The Reptile and Frog Herpetarium features 360 degree glass habitats catered to the needs of each different species so you can more easily view these exotic tropical reptiles and amphibians. With over 30 types of classifications this climate controlled exhibit delivers a chance to have a safe personal encounter with these fascinating forms of animal life.
Round trip transportation from your lodging in the Monteverde area is included as well as your naturalist guides and all entrance fees.

So few butterflies looked like they were working on the butterfly exhibit. The guide was a little too excited when he asked if we wanted to stay while he fed the poisonous snakes. of course we declined. But lots hummers.

Felt a bit like we were on an assembly line, as this business is VERY popular and crowded. The bus was packed full on the way back.

Guide was very nice and seemed knowledgeable but very quiet and needs more confidence and a louder voice to get people to listen. Butterflies the best part, reptile display a little disappointing.

Hummingbird garden is amazing and a must see. The butterfly garden and reptiles are not too impressive.

We loved our guide, he was so sweet and thoughtful with my mom. He even took her camera and helped her take some great photos!

Disappointed in information provided - guide rushed us and rushed through his memorized narrative.

We suspected that this would be pretty low key and it was. Guide was great. Butterfly area also good. Reptile display is getting run down and was frankly shabby.

this tour is very commercialized and I didn't enjoy it as much as the bird tour out in nature. We went on a separate on our own to San Jaun Coffee plantation that was very informative and enjoyable.

Most favorite part was the hummingbirds on my finger!
