Today the sky’s the limit as you head outdoors to totally immerse yourself in this once in a lifetime adventure. (Unless you come back to do it again!) You’ll leisurely walk the hanging bridges at the top of the cloud forest canopy exploring the old growth forest from top to bottom. Your professional guide will identify bird calls and help you spot the exotic winged creatures as well as reveal cleverly camouflaged insects.

Next you’ll board a gondola style cable car and slowly rise up the mountain until you’re way above the canopy looking down at the spectacular vistas below you. Here you’ll come to your first zip lining platform where you’ll begin your descent via 8 zip lining cables until you reach terra firma again. This three-in-one 5 hour extravaganza is sure to create a lifetime of memories.

Sky Adventures is locally owned by a Costa Rican family consisting of two brothers and a sister. One is a professional biologist working an organic cocoa farm, another is dedicated to social work improving people’s lives and the third is an innovator. Together they became leaders in the ecotourism movement 18 years ago when they opened this nature park. They wanted not only to protect the rare cloud forest ecology but also to share the beauty of this environment so others may recognize the value of preserving biologically diverse corridors.

Using noninvasive building techniques to construct the massive bridges, platforms and cables; they created innovative ways to bring people up into the tree tops for a closer look at life in the top of the canopy. With trees towering over 150 feet in the air, this old growth woodland supports over 2500 species of plants, more than 400 species of birds, over 100 mammals and thousands of insect species.

Thought to have the largest diversity of orchid species in the world, this specific cloud forest region is highly studied by botanists and biologists alike. The lush understory, often shrouded in mist and covered in dew, is home to a large variety of flowering bromeliads and epiphytes which in turn provide homes and food for insects. Over 90% of forest organisms live in the top of these trees including animals like the sloth and six species of primates.

Whether walking across the hanging bridges or riding the gondola cable car slowly up the mountain side, your knowledgeable guide will provide a wealth of information about the area and the interdependence of the wildlife that lives here. With daily forays into the forest, your local guide has excellent spotting skills for finding what will be available for viewing during the time of your visit. Every day presents a different array of sightings with no guarantees and few disappointments.

Reaching the top of the mountain in your cable car you will arrive at the uppermost station and be treated to a cup of delicious hot cocoa. At this altitude it can be quite chilly so you might want to dress accordingly. This is an excellent opportunity to take photos. On a clear day it is possible to see the Pacific Ocean as well as the Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal.

From here you will start your zip line descent after being given safety instructions and becoming familiarized with the state-of-the-art equipment. The automatic braking system allows you to enjoy zipping along without worrying about how and when to stop.

At each platform you’ll be met by a guide who will assist you with switching to the next cable. There are 8 cables, the first two are shorter and considered your practice cables followed by zip lines of varying lengths. You’ll sail across the forest canopy and over wide canyons below. The last cable brings you back to the office area where you began.

Transportation to this awesome experience is included as well as entrance and guide.

This tour exceeded our expectations. We really wanted to do the zip lining and the Sky Walk was just something we were doing...this ended up being our favorite tour of nature of our entire trip. It did help we had been with guides previously that had telescopes, but there was so much to be said to see wild life up close (i.e. sloths at the top of the trees instead of looking at them from the ground). The zip lining staff were very helpful as we had family members with all ranges of comfort and they worked with each person where they were at. The only negative was we paid for the pictures and didn't bring our cell phone, not realizing they would only take photos in two places. I recommend bringing something to take photos.
