Slowly ascending to the top of the Continental Divide in the luxury of an enclosed cable car gives you ample opportunity to gaze at the stunning scenery surrounding you. Your knowledgeable guide will reveal a wealth of information about the unique cloud forest canopy and its inhabitants as you pass through on your way high above where on a good day you might see the Pacific Ocean far away on one side and Arenal Volcano and Lake on the other.
Reaching the top, you’ll stop to take in the spectacular views from an observation station and be treated to a welcome cup of hot chocolate. At almost 5,000 feet the elevation can be quite chilly so be sure to dress warmly. This is also a great place to take photos.
After a safety lesson, your guide will help you into a harness and explain the innovative braking system that will automatically bring you to a stop at every platform where another guide will assist you. Sky Trek uses high quality custom made double thick steel cables to ensure your safety at all times.
Your first two zip lines will be short to allow you to practice and become accustomed to the experience. You’ll continue your descent in a series of six more variable length cables crisscrossing from one side of the forest canopy to the other, in between treetops and flying over deep panoramic gorges.
Sky Trek’s steel platforms are approximately 45 feet long and 10 feet wide anchored into concrete foundations complete with protective guardrails. Using the latest technology, the state of the art pulley system will deliver a smooth transition as you zip effortlessly from one tree top to another.
This unique cloud forest setting is created by moist Atlantic breezes meeting dry Pacific air currents on the top of the continental divide forming a layer of dense fog. The Monteverde cloud forest embraced by the moist tropical air provides one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world.
Visitors and scientists alike share the excitement of exploring this amazing abundance of life forms. Home to more than 2500 species of plants, including the largest classifications of orchids on earth, 400 species of exotic birds, over 100 species of snakes, and thousands of insect families, Monteverde takes pride in protecting and sharing this beautiful area.
Your last and longest zip will bring you back down to the main building where you will remove your harness and share the excitement of the day. It has been recommended to bring your own GoPro camera but you can also rent one at the office. Please note that you will only be able to carry a small backpack of items with you or what you can zip securely in your pockets. Loose items will need to be left behind at the office.
Children must be at least 3 feet 11 inches in height to fit in the safety harnesses. Guides will assist children and can even zip with them in certain conditions. This zip lining adventure is not recommended for pregnant women and persons with specific medical conditions such as heart problems or vertigo. People who are of excessive weight should ask at the time of booking if there are weight restrictions for the size of the safety harnesses. Closed toed shoes must be worn on the zip lining platforms.
