Hotel Capitan Suizo offers a distinctive beachfront boutique experience in Tamarindo, where tropical gardens meet the Pacific. Guests can enjoy a freeform pool, an open-air seaside restaurant featuring Costa Rican and international cuisine, and the tranquil Aromas del Mar Spa. With personalized service and a focus on nature, the hotel provides a serene escape while remaining a short walk or drive from Tamarindo's vibrant town. Accommodations feature terraces or balconies, garden outlooks, and select ocean views, ensuring a comfortable stay without televisions to enhance the natural ambiance.
Where tropical gardens meet Tamarindo beach
Tall trees, tropical gardens and the Pacific just beyond them give Hotel Capitan Suizo a distinctive place in Tamarindo. This beachfront boutique hotel lets you move from a beach stroll to a swim in the freeform pool, then enjoy a meal in the open-air seaside restaurant. Personalized service is part of the boutique experience. The town is close enough for an outing, while the gardens invite time spent at the hotel itself.
Tamarindo’s restaurants, bars and small shops are a short drive or about a 15-minute walk away. Different parts of the beach draw surfers, swimmers and boogie boarders, giving an outing into town a coastal rhythm of its own before you return to the gardens.
A garden, a terrace and time at the shore
The tropical dry-forest setting of Guanacaste gives the wider Tamarindo area its character, while the hotel's tall trees and gardens make the grounds feel connected to nature. A beach stroll, a swim in the Pacific or time in the freeform pool can become the day's main plan. The pool and lounge area sit among trees, providing a place to pause out of the midday sun; monkeys and other wildlife sometimes visit the gardens.
Catamaran cruises let you see the Guanacaste coastline from the water. A Palo Verde riverboat safari offers opportunities to observe birds, monkeys, iguanas and crocodiles, while canopy ziplines and all-day outings at Rincon de la Vieja adventure ranches bring a more active option. The town's shops, restaurants and bars make another day possible close by, with the short drive or roughly 15-minute walk allowing you to return to the hotel when you wish.
A seaside meal and time to unwind
The restaurant serves Costa Rican and international cuisine, using fresh and organic ingredients whenever possible. Romantic candlelight dinners are an added service. Aromas del Mar Spa sits among the tropical gardens, where massages and other treatments come with the ocean's sounds in the background.
Find your preferred setting
The room details help you choose how close to the shore you want to be. Superior Rooms have a spacious bathroom and terrace or balcony near the lobby and reception. Garden Bungalows are individual units with hammock terraces and spacious bathrooms, double whirlpools and outdoor hot-water showers. Connected Beachfront Garden Rooms have wooden decks, hammocks, ocean views and bathrooms with showers and Jacuzzis. The two Beachfront Suites occupy the same unit, one on the ground floor and one above. The lower suite has a living area, large terrace and bathroom with a shower; the upper unit has a living area, wide hammock balcony, double Jacuzzi and shower. Both have ocean views and direct beach access.
All categories have terraces or balconies and garden outlooks; some have ocean views. Mini-refrigerators, coffee or tea facilities, phones, safes, radios and room WiFi complement the fans and air-conditioning. WiFi is also available in some public areas. Antique Costa Rica photographs, local art and craftsmanship give the accommodation a sense of place, while the absence of televisions makes room for the ocean and nature sounds that are part of the setting. A visit to the souvenir shop or a treatment chosen with the spa therapists can round out a day spent mainly at the property.
Plan your dates
Hotel Capitan Suizo is closed for maintenance from September 19 to October 19, 2026. Plan dates around that closure and confirm reopening arrangements with your vacation specialist.
For a stay here, leave time to enjoy the relationship between gardens and beach: a walk, a swim, a seaside meal and a return to your terrace without needing to fill every hour.
Highlights to help you choose
Beachfront access, tall trees and tropical gardens put the coast and greenery together. Choose Capitan Suizo for a boutique stay with room to enjoy the setting, while Tamarindo's shops and nightlife are a short drive or about a 15-minute walk away.
The freeform pool and lounge area among the trees give you a welcome pause from the midday sun. Beach walks and time by the Pacific can remain the main pleasures of a day without a separate excursion.
Monkeys and other wildlife sometimes visit the grounds, adding interest to the gardens. Nearby Palo Verde riverboat safaris offer further opportunities to observe wildlife, without guaranteed sightings.
The open-air seaside restaurant serves Costa Rican and international cuisine, using fresh and organic ingredients whenever possible. Romantic candlelight dinners are an added service, not a standard room inclusion.
Aromas del Mar Spa sits in the tropical gardens, with massages and treatments accompanied by ocean sounds. It gives you another way to enjoy the property when you want a less active afternoon.
Rooms have terraces or balconies and garden outlooks; ocean views vary by category. Individual Bungalows, connected Beachfront Garden Rooms and direct-access Beachfront Suites give different settings and bathroom features, so compare them around your preferred view and space.
Rooms have no televisions. Air-conditioning, fans and room WiFi provide other comforts, with WiFi in some public areas; choose the atmosphere deliberately if TV is important to your usual evening routine.
Catamaran cruises, canopy ziplines and Rincon de la Vieja adventure-ranch outings can add activity beyond the beach, while town restaurants and shops allow a simpler day close by.

I would definitely stay here again. The rooms, pool and beach front are beautiful, the location was the perfect distance from town to allow peace and quiet but still an easy walk to town and restaurants. I would highly recommend this hotel.

We loved the hotel and the special attention given to each guest. We were sad that the beach was not what we had expected...lots of debris and sand compact. The hotel was amazing. Rebecca and Marissa were exceptional at the restaurant. The front desk even called our room when the monkeys came on the property...I am a teacher and wanted some pictures.

Feel that the ratings may be lower because the hotel came after Nayara. Might not be a fair comparison.

We loved being able to walk out of our room onto the beach. Also loved seeing the wildlife,
Especially monkies and iguanas! But a few crabs got into our room- it seemed like the doors were not sealed very well.

We enjoyed our stay here but some of the staff were a little cold like they were bored with tourists.

Room and hotel were awesome

We had ants and bugs in our room. Told the front desk but nothing was done. WIfi was really really weak, even in the lobby. All our hotels up to this point were just really really nice and clean. Since this one was older, I was a little disappointed. It was more of a walk to restaurants but you had more of a private beach. I would probably stay here again.

This was an outstanding hotel/resort. Staff was so friendly and helpful and the grounds and accommodations were fantastic! Monkeys in the trees and iguanas on the ground!!

Had a small problem the first night, we had a leak from the shower flooding the room. The staff was great, came promptly and cleaned the room. The room was really nice and all you had to do was open the door to walk onto the beach. The view was beautiful.

Great hotel in a great location just outside the town.

Amazing room and view but the demographic was a little old.

OK, is this a trick category with Capitan Suizo? A 10 is not good enough. Our bedroom was on the beach and we listened to the ocean each night. And, surprise, not a TV in any room. What a restful and enjoyable respite. Restaurant was excellent. Prices were very reasonable. Breakfast is so good here. This place deserves all its accolades. We will be back and soon.

We probably appreciated this recommendation most of all. The accommodation, staff and food were all excellent. The setting could not have been better. We loved being on the beach and being able to walk to town every day.

AC in our unit was weak, they added a dehumindifier and charged it, but it was still weak. THAT SAID great beach front room. Loved it!

Air conditioning at an additional cost of $40 plus tax per night.

Nice hotel right on the water which was nice. Short walk to town which was perfect. Staff was outstanding, as were the amenities. The only challenge that we had was a lot of bugs in our room, which was expected. The problem was that we woke up every morning with bites all over.
