Close to the beach was a plus. The only complaint is that the breakfast is kind of small and not very filling.
Find your place to stay
Hotel Luna Llena offers a budget-friendly escape in Tamarindo, ideally situated a ten-minute walk from the lively beach. Guests can unwind by the pool, indulge at the spa, or utilize the gym after exploring the Nicoya Peninsula. With complimentary breakfast and comfortable rooms, including bungalows with kitchenettes, it serves as an excellent base for surf, dining, and local adventures.
At Hotel Luna Llena, Tamarindo Beach is a ten-minute walk away, and the hotel pool invites a gentler afternoon after time on the shore. Rooms and bungalows make this a flexible, budget-minded base on the northern Pacific coast of the Nicoya Peninsula. Tamarindo’s warm beige sands bring locals and travelers together; take a little time to watch the beach’s lively scene before deciding how actively you want to join it.
Start with a complimentary breakfast, choosing from Continental, American and Tico options. A surf lesson, a longboard or a boogie board can then give the morning its own rhythm. Seaside restaurants provide places to stop for a meal or a cocktail, while horseback riding, ATV outings and kayaking can make another day feel quite different. A sunset boat cruise takes the evening onto the water; nightlife and live music offer another direction back in town.
After those outings, Luna Llena gives you several ways to settle in. Take a swim, work a visit to the spa or gym into the afternoon, or simply enjoy time at your accommodation. When the swim-up bar is operating, a strawberry daiquiri can accompany the poolside pause. The bar may be closed during low season, so treat that pleasure as conditional rather than the basis of choosing the stay.
Rooms provide air conditioning, orthopedic mattresses, hot showers, cable television, a telephone and a safe. Housekeeping helps keep the return straightforward, while a bungalow adds a kitchenette and mezzanine bedroom for travelers who want a different layout. Choose the accommodation around your party and how you want to share the stay.
Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and nearby parking is included. Liberia International Airport is about an hour’s drive away in normal traffic conditions; plan transfers around actual road conditions rather than a guaranteed arrival time. Luna Llena suits a trip built around enjoying Tamarindo’s beach and town, with breakfast taken care of and familiar comforts waiting after an active day.

The staff and owners were very helpful.
I loved Luna Llena, I would go back again! My only complaint is that the bed was really really hard! I would have preffered a different mattress and pillows.
It was difficult to find a staff member when we needed assistance. They did not have a staff member at the front at any time of day. We arrived around noon on our first day and no one was there. We needed assistance late afternoon on our second day and I walked around the complex until I found anyone to talk to. The room was clean and comfortable, and staff was friendly and helpful when we did find them. We were a bit disappointed that the pool was either dirty or full of children/teens that were not staying at the hotel.
Thank you Mateo for a wonderful stay! I would suggest to future travelers that the upgrade to the bungalow is totally worth it.
I thought this was a pretty good place.
Great for a budget hotel! Not far off the beaten path/main road. And the staff was great- within a few minutes of us inquiring, she had us set up for a semi-private surfing lesson for the next morning, which turned out to be a highlight of the trip. LOVED Tamarindo!
